First off, congrats to Floyd for his performance. Yes we have seen better performances from him but with the amount of pressure, the media, the hate (i.e. Tyson, ODLH) his 38 years of age, etc... I think Floyd handled himself like a true gentleman since the announcement of the fight to the conclusion of the match. He was very respectful to Manny after the fight (which he always is). Now to break down the fight. I watched it again 2x on Sunday, and each time I watch it, I had it 8 to 4 Floyd. I thought he would stop Manny in the latter rounds, but I knew he would only go for the KO if he sensed Pacquiao was ready to go. I really thought he was looking to knock Manny out in the 11th round. That round was one of his better rounds since Canelo in my opinion. By the end of the 11th round he was schooling Manny very easily. He almost had him looking like an amateur fighter and I mean no disrespect by this, just what I observed. I was very impressed with Floyd's jab. I have never seen him jab so consistency. He threw some jabs against Canelo, Maidana (esp. the rematch), and a few others, but he was popping the jab pretty good against Manny. He also landed some beautiful right hands as early as the since the opening round. Manny had his moments in rds. 2, 4, 5, 6 , which were the only rounds I gave him (with rd. 2 being extremely close). Manny definitely had his moments, but they were two far in between. He staggered Floyd a couple of times, but was ineffective with Floyd on the ropes. His ability to cut the ring off was subpar. Floyd fights in the most effective way to get the win. Manny was reckless and kept following Floyd, therefore Floyd popped the jab, lead right hand and used a lot of movement. I compare it to his performance against Maidana in the rematch, though I think he was better this time. As far as the living up to the hype, blaming Floyd makes no sense. The media, Freddie Roach, Bob Arum and Manny himself (Foot Locker commercial, claiming Floyd feared him) are the ones for making people think this would be Floyd's hardest challenge to date. Floyd did what he always does, which is to find the easiest way to win. Again, each time I re watch the fight, I am more impressed. While not a great fight per say, I definitely think it was a decent performance. Thoughts?
I thought that was a pretty good breakdown. I thought Mayweather looked better in this fight than the Maidana rematch as well. His movements were very fluid. He looked fast, energetic, and very sharp. My only complaint is that I thought he could've been more aggressive offensively in the second half of the fight. He had Pacquioao timed and I thought he should've pressed the attack more.
Thanks man. Yes I think he could have pressed more, but like I said he is still cautious by nature and there was no need in his mind to take the risk of stopping him. This attitude is why he might not get the respect of say a SRL or anyone that has superior boxing skills but still look to finish their opponents. Regardless, he handily beat Manny.
I enjoyed seeing Manny completly shutdown and see all the media haters made to shut up. Mayweather defeating their imaginary hero is devastating to these people. All the sportswriters are slinging mud at Floyd for winning cause they were hoping they could if he lost.
you have to be a real boxing fan and not a pac****s to enjoy the skills Floyd displayed of course it was a little dispointing in the sense that everybody(even Floyd fans)tought manny would be good enough to force Floyd to surpass himself but it didn't happen
The fight wasn't that bad, at all. Again, expectations were too high. Like i have said plenty of times, i thought Floyd won 115-113 or 116-112. I gave round 2 to Manny cause it was extremely close and he was the aggressor. My complaints about Floyd is how he sold us the fight - 'It will be action packed' but i don't think he ever had any plans to engage Pacquiao that much. This was one of floyd's most conservative fights in recent memory. He was more cautious and moved more vs Pac than he was ve Maidana and canelo. He was happy to stay in the ropes with Maidana, never with Pac..only a couple of times did he allow it. I understand the appreciation some have for Flody's defensive skills but i personally like to see a fighter win by doing a little more on offensive side. A jab is a key punch in every fighter's ****nal but there is a difference between a jab that hurts (Klitscko) and a jab that a fighter throws to merely touch and score a point. Floyd used his jab to keep Pac away, that's it, i don't feel those jabs did any damage at all.
3 or 4 good punch? Floyd landed over 80 clean power punches, lead right and check hook even 1 or 2 beautiful uppercuts and many good jab that snapped pac...
I was shocked that PAC did not take any risk.....By the 9th it was so clear he needed to get a KO but he just refused to throw caution to the wind....Oh PAC....Floyd boxed beautifully in my view...smooth and still very sharp I guess if you getting paid that much why risk a KO by going for a KO:roll:
i don't know where those 80 punches came from, that;s a joke. In terms of clean, hard punches... 3 or 4 at most. Power punches aren't necessarily clean, hard punches.. what is definition of a power punch? i guess even when punches catch part of the arms, gloves and barely s****e an opponents' face or body.
power punch is everything that is not a jab...Floyd is fast many check hook landed while mannny tried to come in and a lot of lead straight too...pac wasn't hurt but it kept him honest all night :bbb
