We will have to agree to disagree on that point. Pavlik would of been a tougher test than Kessler
Joe started the ball rolling saying that he wanted to fight Pavlik after the Taylor I. Pavlik was up for it, but things went south when Pavlik fought Gary Lockett who was trained by Enzo Calzaghe. After seeing first hand that merciless destruction of his fighter Enzo told the scene that Calzaghe- Pavlik would never happen

1: I scored the fight for Ottke.
2: What's your source for the 70% number?
What has that got to do with anything? Did Ottke get gift decisions? Yes he did, but Mitchell was not one of them.

Considering Ottke is considered to have had three of the biggest robberies of all time go in his favour within the space of about two years.

The problem for you is you obviously weren't watching boxing at the time, you don't remember why Calzaghe and Mitchell fought, which was basically endorsed as "Mitchell easily beat Ottke and was robbed, so this in effect is the two best SMW's fighting"

Ring Magazine scored the fight for Mitchell, the impartial judge scored the fight for Mitchell and everyone else here scored it for Mitchell except you.

Same Mitchell that Calzaghe knocked out. Go figure.

I can't imagine that. Mikel Kessler is a good technician and since he has some punch variety, he had some succes against Joe Calzaghe. But most of the time he was outsmarted, and outsmarting Kelly Pavilk would have been even easier. Pavliks approach is too straight forward.

I don't think it would have done Pavlik much good trying to brawl with Calzaghe either. Pavlik is a MW and Calzaghe, who is a big dude, was able to hold his own against Kessler when he rallied, and Kessler is bigger and probably tougher than Pavlik.

Ottke didn't clearly win any rounds against Mitchell, the fight was close and there was never really anyone who took the fight by the scruff of the neck. The reality is that most of the media considered it a robbery and it is still mentioned (along with three other Ottke fights) as one of the biggest robberies in boxing history.

So you think Ottke's fight against Robin Reid wasn't controversial? You don't think it could have gone either way?

Funny, because I thought Reid won it clearly and I occasionally rewatch it for its comical value.

Robin Reid also beat Joe Calzaghe, if you ask me.

its more of a draw, but its quite acceptable to mark it a calzaghe loss to the erratic but world class Reid.

Reid is pretty much the level of Reid, they are evenly matched, but Calzaghe was smarter in terms of fighting weaklings way more often and only fighting for one unwanted title for nearly a decade, keeping him safe from getting his ass handed to him by anyone world class.

If Calzage had taken Reids route he'd have several losses.

I respect your opinion, but I never fancied Kelly at SMW. I think Joe was all wrong for him. I think it would have been a terrible match up for Kelly stylistically. But it's a shame we never got to see it.

    Thanks for the links.

Or, maybe he think DeGale would beat Froch. Have you considered that? :think

    I would favour Degale also.
Froch has struggled with fighters who have a bit of speed and is getting older.
