Way disagree. Kirkland always fights like that bro. He was coming forward from the start of the first round landing bombs but canelo was blocking punches and moving his head and then canelo land a punch that Kirkland didn't see it coming. Kirkland always have a weak chin and always gets wide open to get hit. Angulo had Kirkland almost done by ko but angulo punch himself out was way way way worse then canelo.

 

Ray, his timing was off. His balance wasn't there, his punches didn't have leverage or power, and when he got hurt, he backed off. That wasn't Kirkland in there. That was a guy who hadn't fought in over a year.

He back off because canelo has power in his punches lol. Canelo is a bigger puncher then Angulo. Angulo is a volume puncher bro.
When Canelo punch, he punch with full force behind it and he was landing very good combination. Trust me it wouldn't matter if they fought years ago because style makes fights and canelo style is all wrong for Kirkland.

To be fair I don't think this fight would have been any different if he's been active. He has a poor defense, likes to brawl and has a glass jaw. That's not the combination you want from someone when you're facing a puncher.

 

This ^. Kirklands got a big heart and a good engine (when in shape) but simply isn't a very good boxer. I'm also really not a believer in glass jaws, but if I was Kirkland would be the reason.

Canelo made this fight and he tried to make it in the past. He and his camp knew they had the edge on Kirkland. Kirkland wasn't going to win even if he was busy during the year. Canelo too good of a sharp shooter for a sloppy brawler like Kirkland. Some fight though.
