Why does GGG keep calling out smaller fighters than him??

Not GGG's fault Ward went back into litigation, and now is on BET with tune ups scheduled. Froch said no. There is no other fight at 168 really worth making.

I don't see any fans, aside from GGG fans, hoping to see him face Floyd or Canelo. Am I wrong?

Cotto should fight him, but Cotto obviously has no interest in facing him, and the political machine in boxing clearly favors Cotto and will bend to his will on this matter.

    So...

    Where's the demand?

And Canelo-Kirkland and Cotto-Geale are what they are. Canelo was able to raise his stock facing Kirkland in an exciting burst with a predictable outcome, and Cotto is HOPING to buy time with an easy defense, but they may have miscalculated here, and I for one wouldn't be surprised if Cotto tried to pull out of the Geale fight (if I were advising him, I'd have him abandon that route in a heartbeat).

GGG, naturally, wants big money fights. But I'd be shocked if he landed a match-up against one of the smaller cash cows.

They have little to no incentive to face him, much like GGG has little to no incentive to challenge Ward.

I did give 2 options, obvious ones, too.

Basically the status quo. GGG ain't landing a cash cow.

I already said Cotto should, but anyone with half a brain should realize Cotto WON'T.

The reality is, Cotto's position is politically far superior to GGG's. I know the GGG faithful don't like that, but it's the truth.

Reality is, he's calling out stars.

There aren't any stars at MW, SMW (Ward hasn't fought regularly, Froch is basically retired) or LHW ( Hopkins is about as big as it gets, but isn't a money making fight for young fighters anymore )

Because most of the guys in his weight class want no part of him, including the "linear champion" Cotto.

So he can either call out junior middleweights or super middleweights. Alvarez is the only big money fight in those weight classes.

My guess is it has something to do with fighting guys that will bring in millions of dollars and sell a PPV as opposed to fightign Ward for a couple hunert thousand with nobody watching.

Including all the reasons already mentioned, I can't imagine why GGG would call out a 175er.... 2 weight divisions above him

I think when you are a hard core boxing head, its pretty easy to lose track of both the casuals and typical (between hard core and casual) fans.

Assuming neither of us has statistically sound polling data (well, I dont ) and judging anecdotally from experience... among the typical and semi-hardcore I talk to, both locally and on the net - seeing GGG in with anyone significant is pretty much the #1 desired fight. Worth noting that the majority demographic covered are white Midwesterners, and Texans.

Biggest response to Floyd schooling Manny : "dammmm... this sucks, he should fight Golovkin". Among less hardcore fans, Golovkin is in my experience the most talked about/followed fighter - which should come as no surprise since he has the most YouTube knockout videos. He is an action guy who knocks everyone out....

Arum was willing to cash Jr out against him on PPV, HBO is willing to press the question when they have other options for big fights, none of which is the case just because they think he is a nice guy. The guys who do have actual opinion/market data want to make bigger fights..

Outside of Manny and Floyd he seems to get more press, including mainstream press, then any other fighter. The new WBC President was not on hand personally in Monaco to belt an interim guy who is perceived as a nobody, or fly him around Mexico City.

Sure, Canelo is bigger among Mexicans and Cotto among Ricans but leave those two (admittedly hugely important for North American boxing) demographics and outside Floyd/Manny its all GGG.

Honestly I cannot, from where I sit, begin to fathom where a statement about there "being no demand" comes from.

You are either grossly overrating GGG's appeal to "casual fans" or you are using that phrase far too liberally. GGG is not a household name, by any stretch. In fact, I bet most legit "casuals" don't even know who he is. When I brought him up at the Pac-May party I attended, nobody had heard of him, except one person who mistook him for Kovalev (or more specifically - "the guy who beat Hopkins").

I maintain what I say. The "demand" to see GGG vs Floyd or Canelo is something that derives primarily from GGG fans themselves (and also, to perhaps a greater extent, Floyd haters).

Well, Floyd has far more haters than fans. He is not a good person outside the ring, and is a boring one to many inside it - seems to me that the conventional wisdom that people watch Floyd to see him lose holds true. I know a total of one person outside these forums who wants to see Floyd "showcase" , everyone else to a man wants him KTFO.

I think the phenomena you are observing is simply a reflection of the fact that boxing itself is not as big as it once was.

Probably also worth noting, that outside of hearing about Floyd/Manny - most general sports fans don't know a thing about the modern boxing scene. The only people I know who do, are MMA fans primarily who sometimes follow boxing. Golovkin is big among this crowd, in my area and the areas I have contact with regularly. "Big" of course, being a very very relative term - in this case the only, or one of the only fighters people have heard of. (Kovalev, Marquez, Klitschko, Wilder to an extent come up)

Silva, Cyborg,Rousey, etc much more frequent topics of conversation. Because, frankly, MMA is much much bigger than boxing across these demographics. Which I obviously find extremely unfortunate.

Honestly I kind of get the vibe, and correct me if I am wrong - I well could be - just the vibe I get is that you just don't like Golovkin very much. Maybe its because you have to moderate a boxing forum and read 40 billion posts a day about him? Which I do understand.

But can you honestly tell me you don't think GGG-Cotto or GGG-Canelo would not at least roughly double their previous PPV numbers?

He should call Floyd out, it puts the most $$$ in his pocket.

Floyd should say "no", it makes no sense for him.

    Boxing is quite logical.
