It never mattered as much before because he had far better movement.

Well done for calling it but I think it's a different fight against a prime Sergio.

oh I agree but we cant make them fight back then. plus Cotto i think was barely going to 154 back then.

If were saying a healthy Martinez last summer, not his age but healthy, Cotto puonds him just like he did. :good:good

we can take every fight thats ever been done and say "if it was in there prime" but that anit the way it goes. Im say healthy Martinez last summer still gets pounded out because he has no defense and Cotto was BY FAR the most skilled fighter Martinez has ever faced. Thats why i make the big bucks :hat:hat

yeah but Martinez was badly past his prime and likely injured

Cotto might've been the most skilled, but the Williams Martinez fought would've beat Cotto imo

1 loss only on record as far as I am concerned. (And anyone with eyes really). His fight with Cotto was supposed to be his swan song. Too bad his body couldn't last the last mile, but can't blame him for trying (and making his biggest payday).

Massive fan of Martinez ... Gutted to see him bow out like he did... His 'prime' finished in the jr fan when he blew his knee out ... Then against Murray after a year out he blew his knee out again ... Wasn't it set him daft like he fought twice in 4 years before the cotto fight??

    Weird thread this.

Seen this retirement coming from miles away and had a couple of threads about it too. His knee was completely screwed up after the Chavez Jr fight and got worse and worse (both knees actually).
I wish Maravilla succes in his further life and with his promotional company.

Good. Would be even more sad to see him fight on.

From his Twitter - Aun no anuncié ningún retiro. Aun no confirmé nada. Siendo conciente de todo, aun no dije adios. Quitaron de contexto mis palabras.

"I didn't even announce my retirement. I didn't even confirm anything. As far as I'm aware, I didn't even say goodbye. They took my words out of context."

Wow, that changes a lot
Don't believe we ever see him back in the ring though, other as in a promoting or visiting capacity.
