This is what a massive event like Mayweather vs Pacquiao does. As long as a massive audience is brought in, while many will leave to other things, many will also stick around and might even get more interested with the sport. Everyone starts off as a casual.
It definitely had a lot to do with it. The record breaking numbers there set a new standard of numbers/viewers in the sport.
The ratings should've been higher. The replay probably hurt the ratings by putting some the viewers to sleep like Kirkland.
So much for the death of boxing. This is down to May-Pac and Alvarez. They increased the awareness for boxing, and Alvarez is also a PPV attraction and benefited from the extra exposure that boxing got from the massive May-Pac episode. Boxing is very much alive and Canelo is a worthy PPV attraction. They're paying attention now. Forget this death of boxing bull****. Boxing is alive.
