Yeah, if you're doing them at a half-assed pace with ****py form. It's 15 minute rounds, so his one round of sparring lasts at least 15 minutes and upwards to 30 minutes (now you're going to tell me how easy that is). He's conditioned for boxing, that's why he doesn't even breathe heavy whilst most other boxes are dead on their feet after a good 12 round fight.
Because they think their sport is more badass and hardcore and that's why they follow it, I mean if you ask a boxing fan why he likes boxing they'd probably say because it's beautiful to watch, it's skillful... things like that, a typical MMA fan response would be "An MMA fighter would beat boxer (or anyone) in a street fight" whilst wearing a Tapout t-shirt. Naturally to feel secure about their preferences they **** on everything else.
Tim Sylvia was years removed from his prime as well. 'But those skills don't translate well...' So? YOU seem to think that ANY Boxer - going on your comments - can hammer an MMA'er. As soon as Toney gets brought up you move the goalposts... An plodders like Golovkin and Wlad's skills would translate well to MMA? Yeah right.
No of course not any, there are some boxers who MMA fighters would beat due to their styles being overwhelmingly suited to boxing and nothing else. You're not going to fight like Floyd or Pernell Whitaker in a street fight. I meant boxers like Roy Jones, Tyson, Foreman, Kovalev and the like. And don't get me started on Golovkin, he knocks Anderson Silva out in 5 seconds flat.
Yeah, sure. Anderson would remove his good looks within seconds. You really are a clueless idiot to think that a person with one way of winning a fight can beat, and will always beat, someone with MULTIPLE ways of winning a fight.
"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." -Bruce Lee
What I never get is why people who don't seem to like boxing - who prefer, for whatever reason, to watch a couple of guys roll around on the ground - post on boxing sites! If you like this boring ****, and want to bash boxing and boxers, there are plenty of UFC/MMA fanboy sites where that goes on all the time. Here, we are a BOXING site, where fans recognize and love the best - and longest lasting - fighting sport of all time. BOXING!!!
A lot of these "baddest men" would cry themselves to sleep at night in active combat, or prison. Dudes in the special forces are way harder than any boxer or mma fighter....and train to kill, and do kill as part of their job, and have hand to hand training designed to survive real life and death scenarios. Walk into a prison, there are dudes there that wouldn't think twice about jabbing you 20 times in the neck with a pen, or ripping your ear off, or biting your nose off. Delusional to call any combat athlete the baddest man alive....but the moniker is a traditional tag for the heavyweight champ so it's undertsandable.
Re. Mercer vs Sylvia ... Sylvia thought that he could stand and trade punches with Ray patsch) - it worked out predictably enough. Having an all-round skillset is worthless if you are a dumbass and try to take a guy on in his strongest skillset. Espacially because Sylvia was never a particularly awesome striker even in MMA. Mercer rightfully clowned him. :yep However - notice how Mercer tried to take Sylvia down after blasting him with his right? Naughty, naughty, looks like Mercer has been doing his homework and is not a "pure" boxer anymore I have to give Cafe his props in defending boxing though, he has done a pretty good job, even though he is wrong. :hey I can't blame boxing fans for preferring boxing to MMA either. I myself find a GOOD boxing match more entertaining to watch than a lot of the MMA out there. When the dudes end up on the ground humping each other, it can bring tears of frustration to my eyes, especially if they are both inferior ground fighters or aren't trying to improve their position. :verysad That said, the "punch n' clinch" school of boxing is equally frustrating to me. Can I recommend, however, Sakuraba or Carlos Newton for what a good ground fighter looks like? There's nothing to say a guy can't enjoy a good rumble, regardless of the format. :thumbsup
A nerd... ooooh... uh oh! You really got me there. I sound like a nerd lol... Im actually gonna take that as a compliment though, nerds are cool in my book. Like I said, except now its even more obvious, you're a boy in a mans world with a little brother syndrome. Hopefully you grow out of it for your own betterment someday. Ive been in many boxing and mma gyms and have my share of experience in both sports, and even in mma gyms they usually dont show the amount of ignorance and naivety you display in this thread. You sound like a true fanboy poser. Anyways.. take care
