Promoter Eddie Hearn says Carl Froch should hang them up because there are currently no options that motivate him, and both of his titles are now gone. Earlier this year, Froch vacated the IBF world title. And a few weeks the WBA championships committee withdrew its recognition of Froch due to his year-long inactivity that was caused in part by the collapse of a Las Vegas showdown with Julio Cesar Chavez Junior because of an elbow injury.

A rematch with WBA super champion Andre Ward could be a possibility for Froch, however, once the outstanding boxer overcomes British challenger Paul Smith in Oakland in June. The WBA has stated that Froch will be the mandatory challenger to Ward after his non-title fight against Smith.

But Hearn admits that Froch is not very motivated by the rematch.

Hearn told Sky Sports News HQ: "If you haven't got that desire anymore, he wouldn't be the same fighter. We saw it against George Groves in the first fight, his heart wasn't really in the fight, he took a pasting for parts of that fight. So unless there's a fight that motivates him I don't really want to see him in the ring again.

"But we can't seem to find the fight to motivate him, you talk about avenging Andre Ward, deep down do you really want to avenge the loss to Andre Ward? I think the answer is 'not really'. That's not his fault, that's just the truth, but when you have that feeling how can you compete at the top level when your whole career has been based on your determination to compete and to win if you haven't got that any more?

"The way that he fights, he's going to be in tough, tough, tough wars and at nearly 38 years of age, and plenty of money in the bank, not motivating at all. Legacy is not really a motivator at all, he's been there and done it and he's been four times champion of the world, so what is he fighting for?

"As a businessman I'd love him to fight again, there's a huge amount of money involved. As a fighter and friend? I think it might be time to sit back and say 'what a career I've had'. I'd hate for him to get retired rather than retire."

I think Froch needs to retire what fighter doesn't get motivated to avenge a loss ?:bart

No **** he isn't. He knows he's getting that ass tapped again if they were to meet once more.

No complaints from me. If The Cobra thinks it's time to bow out, power to him.

He has largely represented everything that's good about boxing, and I don't blame him for looking to cash out recently or for not being eager to face Ward again.

When a fighter is inactive and simply looking for easy and lucrative paydays at the late stages of their careers it's pretty evident that retirement is imminent.

If Froch had any kind of hunger he would have been keeping busy with regular defences while waiting for the big money fights. I've been saying this for a while now, Froch is basically retired, he's just delaying on pulling the trigger and making it official.

He was a month ago when Ward priced himself out by pretending he's good enough for Wembley...then instead fought Paul Smith in Jokeland

What evidence is there that Froch was ever seriously interested in fighting at Wembley? Wasn't he insisting Nottingham?

And why are you claiming Ward "priced himself out"?

Because Ward draws nowhere near enough to sell out Wembley. Froch wasn't interested in fighting at Wembley because he knows Ward fighting there doesn't sell out and it costs a hell of a lot more to use it than the City Ground- and would sell less tickets most likely.

Ward claiming he should be fighting at Wembley, and blames Froch for the fight not happening:

Froch and his team knows that Ward/Froch would easily sell out Wembley.

Froch doesn't want a damn part of Andre.

Ever since the Super 6, Froch has been staying away from Dre.

No way in hell Froch/Ward sells out Wembley, you don't just fill up stadiums that size against anybody. While Ward is clearly the number 1 super middle he has little marquee value. Groves is a Londoner and has a decent fan base, he was headlining cards at Wembley Arena which has a capacity of 12,500 which is about double what Ward draws to his fights in Oakland. That combined with the controversy of the first fight led to a unique situation which is not the case with Ward/Froch.

I like Ward, I am a fan but he is deluded regarding his self worth. He isn't a Mayweather who could go to the UK and fill up the national stadium against someone like Khan or Brook, he's a Winky Wright, a Rigodeaux, he maybe elite but in reality he brings little more to the table than Kessler did in the rematch and that was not at Wembley stadium.

Both have made it very clear that both want control in the negotiations. Ward saying "Froch is not dictating anything" and Froch saying he isn't overly motivated and will only take the fight on his terms. Difference is Froch is content in not avenging the rematch while Ward wants that big payday he has yearned for so much, which is why he agreed to travel to the UK.

    All his options

    Ward
    Dirrell
    GGG
    DeGale

Will beat him now and he knows it also. Poor note to retire on.

Retire Carl. Always said himself when he cant get motivated to face an opponant then he wont be motivated to train.

Ward gave Froch his biggest loss. Even in Carls own eyes i think he accepted he was beaten comfortably and clearly. Wouldnt accept J.Taylor was winning on points up to the KO, wouldnt accept Kessler beat him and claimed he had the Dirrell under control most the fight. But Ward, well he knew.

Made a hell of a career, earnt a hell of alot of respect from a hell of alot of ppl around the world who at one time saw you as nothing more than a slow 1 dimensional slugger. Hang em up Carl.

Hearn said in another interview that part of the problem with the Ward fight is he is so boring, hardly a spectacle to retire on. Lose/lose situation. Chavez Jr got KOd, GGG is very dangerous and doesn't sell enough tickets and DeGale will be too far away.

    He never has been.

I think Froch hangs them up now.

Unless Degale beats Dirrell, theres really no fight left for him.
