Unfortunately we don't have the Fulton knockout, but I would be very surprised if it was as hard as the Walcott one, as far as the ability to knockout with one punch I will pick Marciano due to that.

He leaned toward Marviano. He did not say there were any great differences in terms of power. He saw from ringside both men live.

If you put a gun to my head, I would say Marciano punch for punch, but Dempsey was unequivocally the better finisher.

Years ago I had read an account of the Dempsey flattening of Fred Fulton in much less than a minute, by a famous boxing writer whose name escapes me today...He described the fury and power of the 2 short Dempsey punches that the young Dempsey landed that rendered the 6ft4" Fred Fulton unconscious...Both punches in less than one minute of the first round...
Marciano had boulder like hurting power, but for the life of me I cannot see a young Jack Dempsey take NINE rounds to stop
a very, very hittable Don ****ell...Just can't see it...

Sorry. Fleischer leaned towards Dempsey as being the harder hitter. Not Marciano. However he rated Rocky, Louis and Dempsey all up their together as punchers.

Dempsey's is more proven, pure and simple, against much bigger and physically prime better guys ... what he did to Willard alone was brutal .. Firpo who in poor condition went 12 with the supposedly brutal punching Wills was beaten to a pulp, icing Brennan late in a brutal fight, beating up the huge Morris, blowing out Fulton, crushing body shots destroying a small but prime Carpentier, almost decapitating an incredibly tough Tunney far past his own best .. I'm not taking anything from Rocky who was without question a brutal puncher .. let's say Dempsey w the hook, Rocky w the cross ..

Marciano clearly took better opponents out more consistently with 1 shot.

When did Marciano fail to finish someone? He wouldn't have let Gibbons or Tunney hang around

Who is this famous one shot of Rocky ? He hit 37 year old Walcott with dozes of rights before catching him just right .. the Layne KO was sweet but that does't place him on Rushmore .. for the most part Rocky beat guys down over rounds with consistent punishment . He let a faded Charles hang around and I'd pick both Tunney and Gibbons over the Charles Rocky fought .. LaStarza, small guy, beatdown over many rounds, Charles the second time, small guy, beaten over many rounds .. ****ell, Moore the same .. a faded Louis , old, many rounds .. what made Rocky great to me was his conditioning and ability to punch hard for 15 rounds ..

Rocky Marciano was the hardest hitter ever.
    1- Rocky Marciano
    2- George Foreman
    3- Max Baer
    4- Earnie Shavers

He failed to finish Ezzard Charles once to state the obvious, which is roughly the equivalent of failing to stop Gibbons.

I think we have to conclude that Dempsey was the better finisher, because few people made it out of the early rounds against him, while Marciano needed rounds to break most of his opponents down.

Dempsey hadn't fought in two years prior to Gibbons and three prior to Tunney .. ( only stating what should be the obvious )

he, how DARE you inform the uninformed posters to the true facts leading up to those historic fights ...? :good
P.S. can those posters envision the prime Jack Dempsey hitting the likes of a brave but easily hittable Don ****ell with everything in the books for NINE rounds before the referee stopped the slaughter with Don still on his feet ? Well this is how long it took Marciano to stop the brave hittable Brit...Dempsey hit twice as fast as Rocky and twice as accurate...Marciano whom I admired greatly for his tenacity and great stamina seldom nailed and kod with one punch a worthy opponent excluding Walcott and Rex Lane...His modus operandi was raining dozens of hard blows on his foe, wearing them down by attrition...But he was great what he did for sure...But Dempsey at his best reminded me and some boxing people of a later and smaller
edition of Roberto Duran. Snarl and all...cheers...

"He failed to finish Ezzard Charles once to state the obvious, which is roughtly the equivalent of failing to stop Gibbons."

Charles was a heavyweight, and in fact a former heavyweight champion.

Gibbons, in my judgment, and you can all go nuclear, but it is my opinion, is closer to Harry Matthews.

Both these men could take a man out with one punch, but I would give the edge, if forced to, to Marciano, who was simply much more consistent at stopping people.

I gotta favor Demspsey. He may be the best P4P puncher in history
