As good as he is, Floyd still can't get respect from his countrymen and boxing fans.

Right after the Pacquiao fight, he got booed heavily by the fans...

He showed in an NBA basketball playoff game and still get booed heavily by his countrymen...

    Why? :huh

Because it's not if you win, it's how you win. All my friends(sweden) who are casual fans and only tuned in to watch MayPac all blamed Floyd for a boring fight and most of them actually thought Pac won. I am a Pac fan and clearly saw Floyd winning and actually lost a little respect for Pac for making excuses, but I can fully understand why people react and think of Floyd in such a negative way. Wether it be his not compelling style in the ring or his out of the ring troubles with the law and his ex's he's not publicly a good character for the casual fans.

While on the other hand, "loser" Pacquiao was cheered loudly by the fans right after the fight...

And cheered by his Filipino countrymen when he arrived home in the Philippines...

    Some people love "losers"? :D

And, it must be said, Jordan was part of a leaugue with a powerful PR machine with a vested intrest in keeping him looking squeaky clean. He made more money for the NBA thasn he did for himself. Floyd makes alot of money, and keeps most of it.

Of course he had some haters. Everybody does.

Jordan did whatever the F he wanted/wants. If he wants a mansion het gets one. Wants a yacht he gets one. Wants a new wife he gets one. Wants to retire and play baseball he does. Wants to come back to basketball he does. Wants to trash people at his HOF speech he does. He wants to go golfing with a cigar he does.

    You're comment is ludicrous.

This is an easy one - it's his attitude/persona. When was the last time you saw Sugar Ray Leonard receive that type of response from the public? What about Evander Holyfield? What about George Foreman (other than Zaire)?

Floyd made his own bed (with the "Money Mayweather" persona) and now he has to sleep in it. Whether that's his true character/personality in life or not, a large portion of boxing and casual fans believe that it is. They don't want to root for such a brash, ****y, trash-talking athlete - especially when his style of boxing is what it is (he might be forgiven some of the brashness if he was knocking people out left and right to truly back up all of the talk). On top of that, the general public is keenly aware of his domestic abuse incidents, which further tarnish his reputation.

And the fact that he is black is irrelevant - look at guys like Prince Naseem and Tyson Fury...while they're nowhere near the level of achievement that Floyd has reached, they were (and are) just as hated because of the way they handle themselves during press conferences and interviews. Again, Sugar Ray Leonard was the darling of American boxing for a very long time and is still one of America's most beloved fighters to this day.

Now, having said all of that, I do not fall into the camp of the general public...I personally enjoy watching Floyd's fights because I can respect the ridiculous level of skill he possesses. His defense is out of this world and his quickness is just as impressive, even at the age of 38. I may not agree with everything he does in life, but I can still respect his skill and would not count myself among the people that would be booing him in public. To Floyd's credit (in that regard), he was unusually subdued in the lead up to the Pacquiao fight. We didn't see the brash, brazen Floyd we normally see (largely because extra promotion wasn't necessary for a fight of this magnitude). However, at that point, I think it was just a case of being too little, too late with the persona change.

Respect has to be earned. Its hard to respect anyone that fights the way he does running , grabbing & holding. will never give any opponent he faces an even playing field. His liason with Vegas & the NSAC was made obvious to see in his latest fight
Add to this his personal life Assaults on women .Which to me is abhorant No MAN ever raises his hand to a woman only cowards do that. Any one that laughingly calls himself T.B.E & an A.T.G should at least FIGHT like a man not a wussie
