Monroe Jr is fast and slick. This is a good fight for GGG to test his ability to cut off the ring and close the distance. It's also a nice warm up for the slicker fighters at 168. Monroe can move around the ring really well and he's only lost to Boone, the same Darnell Boone who gave all the top fighters trouble. So despite his record and low KO percentage, he has the ability to outbox a lot of fighters at 160. I can see Monroe Jr getting off to a quick start and GGG some trouble in the first half of the fight. GGG will probably close the distance and slow Monroe Jr down in a few rounds and probably win by KO late, but this fight is not a walk in the park.
You'd have to think very little of Golovkin to think Monroe Jr. is a dangerous fight for him. Monroe will get broken down and stopped in the mid rounds.
I can see Monroe haning in there for 10 rounds. It depends on how much he stays on his bike, if he straight up runs he might do the whole 12.
GGG picked him exactly for the reasons expressed by the TS. This contest really does have some potential intrigue. However, per usual. The anti-GGG crowd will be circling like vultures looking for anything to go all hyperbole over. Sadly, they will probably get some carrion tomorrow.
No revelations about the weigh in today? I expected at least some 'Monroe by bigger biceps" predictions.
No he isn't. Just because he has large muscle bellies in his biceps doesn't mean that he's dangerous.
I agree - to an extent. Monroe Jr did really well against a wide pressure fighter, although clearly much less advanced, in Vera, and showed a few things that could be very useful against GGG. He's willing to throw mid combination, which is huge, because when GGG gets hit, he doesn't bite down on his mouthpiece and throw back, he takes a step back, resets and goes back on him. He moves well, which could do him wonders early on when Golovkin's opponents usually eat punches. That being said, he put himself on the ropes a lot against Vera, and Golovkin wants you on the ropes, so no matter how much he moves once he's in that position, eating punches is not going to be good for you as the fight goes. I think Golovkin finishes him, but Monroe has the potential to make it interesting
Well, not dangerous as in GGG could get hurt, but dangerous in that GGG could look bad in this fight and lose his aura of invincibility. He will probably win, but it won't be easy like Macklin or Rubio. He will need to use his entire skillset to hunt Monroe Jr down. If GGG allow Monroe Jr to win more than 3 rounds and the fight goes the distance, he's going to get a bashing. With the way Monroe fights, there is a decent chance it could go the distance.
Is this an attempt to convince us that GGG isn't fighting someone with no hope?, if so, it isn't working.
Not dangerous but a different type of challenge. I could be wrong but I think people are under estimating Monroe. I still think he loses.
No he's really not. I'm a big Golovkin fan but this just sound like someone trying to give him more credit than he deserves for a win against an opponent of his caliber
