''If Pacquiao would have been okay I don't think it would have been a unanimous decision, and I do believe that he could have beaten Mayweather more and maybe even get him out of his strategy of running and hitting, running and hitting,'' Alvarez told Boxing Scene.

Pacquiao had the option to use an inflammatory drug to ease the pain, but the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) prevented him from doing so as he failed to disclose the injury before fight night.

As a result, fans had to watch a boring fight with Mayweather trumping over Pacquiao by hitting, running and clinching.

Alvarez couldn’t blame the Filipino for hiding his injury.

''I know it was an almost impossible situation for Pacquiao because of all the agreed commitments. They had been negotiating the fight for a long time,'' said Canelo.

He said Pacquiao disclosing the injury could have given Mayweather an excuse not to push through with the bout, which proved to be the most lucrative in pay-per-view history.

The super fight garnered about 4.4 million pay-per-view buys, which guarantees Mayweather up to $200 million and Pacquiao at least $100 million.

''Had he suspended or postponed the fight after so many negotiations, I think the fight would have died right there and they'd never have faced each other,'' said Alvarez.

''I think Pacquiao wanted to fight Mayweather and Mayweather knew this would generate for him and for the two pay-per-view stations. Pacquiao had no choice.''

    canelo speaks sense

He does in this quote of the original article:

"Personally, I wouldn't fight if I knew that I have an injury that would affect me so much. I wouldn't do it and [certainly not with] such an important fight against Mayweather. I'd cancel or postpone it until I recovered," - Saul "Canelo" Alvarez

you really can't let it go, it is actually amusing me now, any reason to give Pacquiao another pass, another excuse.

Keep up the good work, it entertains me.

i think Floyd fans are as disappointed as Pac fans after this fight..

    1. Floyd didn't do much in the fight. Pac made him miss, made him run and pretty much made Floyd fight scared. This was not what a lot of Floyd fans were talking about before fight, they mostly claimed floyd was too big, floyd was gonna knock him out and hit him at will. Floyd won but he certainly didn't look good and ****yzing fight carefully, the scores were highly questionable given Floyd didn't seem to land much at all... he just threw a lot of jabs

    2. Pac had a shoulder injury, this is irrefutable. It was confirmed by a reputable LA surgeon and he had surgery to address it. This is something floyd fans are seriously struggling with and going on an all out shameless character assassination, claiming Pac lied, Pac is a sore loser, Pac had nothing blah, blah.. it's of out of frustration, knowing Floyd looked average against an injured pac

Meh, if I was Pacquiao and I cared about my legacy, I'd rather postpone it or let the fight not happen rather than go into it at less than 100%. In the end, it's not like people could blame him if he pulled out due to injury and had a surgery.

But he decided to fight on (probably for the money), knowing he had an injury and with that he'll have to accept the loss, no excuses can be made.

LOL, I read this thread title as being Pacquiao saying "Canelo" in response to being a in a difficult situation.

Yeah, that's the way to get out of any conundrum. Just say Canelo.

BUT he understood Pacquiao's position and how Pacquiao had really no choice but to fight.

If Pac had the shot beforehand, as he had expected, and lost...then he wouldn't have made any excuses. Reason why is because Pac said with the shot, he'd feel 100% since the injury would be hidden behind the numbness.

There would've been no excuses if he had the shot. That's all he wanted. When it was refused, that's when he knew he was put into a losing situation and the injury did hinder him.
