He was quite good against most fighters. He's the kind of fighter keeping his power right until the end. It showed in his fights vs Tureano and N'Dam. The guys who beat him had it tough early on. GGG didn't gave him a prayer and punked him like probably no one else will ever repeat.
Um Jefferies NO he wouldn't beat Wlad and he was from an extremely different era chief not the 60's, 70's or 80's obviously. But you bet your azz Ali (from the 60-70's) would beat Wlad as would Holmes (80's is when he did his best work) as would Tyson and a few more. Look GGG has power and looks dominant but it's hard to claim oh he'd stop Leonard and Hearns when the guy has never fought anyone close to their level.
Yes, but everyone seems to forget Leonard, Hagler and Hearns (practically) all were retired by the age GGG at 33 knocks out all these guys...
We don't know how good Golovkin is. He has yet to be tested, really tested. But don't attribute that to fighting bums. He has taken on all comers. He has called out everyone in the MW division. As to Leonard, he may have outpointed GGG, but he would not have stopped him. The higher probability is GGG would have stopped Leonard. But he would had to have caught him and that would be tough. On the other hand, Hearns never backed down. He would have gone toe to toe with GGG and I believe GGG would have KO'd him. As to Hagler, that would have been the real test. Hagler brought it and was a tough SOB. He was not as tall as GGG but he had superior reach. Not sure reach would have been a factor, though. Don't forget, though, Hagler had a split decision with Duran, a blown up WW, just like Cotto. He also lost to Monroe's uncle. Denigrating GGG because "he hasn't fought anyone" is nonsense. The guy would be elite in any era.
I'd favor Hagler as well, but GGG fights in that same methodology. He's very composed inside the ring, knows how to cut the ring off quite well, has good punch placement on his shots, and also has thunder in both hands. I could see hearns utilizing every square inch of the ring agasint Gennady and outbox him from a distance. That wouldn't happen with Marvelous though, I'd imagine Hagler would jump on him at times, but for the most part it would probably be a phone booth fight.
GGG would've been average in the late 80's and 90's when Toney, Jones jr. Hopkins, Benn, Eubank, McCallum, McClellan and fighters like that were fighting around middleweight. Hell even those with more fragile chins like Julian Jackson if he landed first would maybe KO GGG.
Benn, Eubank, Mc Clellan were long gone after turning 30... Hopkins wasn't a knockout artist... Toney, Mc Callum at 30 and above went the distance quite often... Jackson had a streak of 6 ko's after turning 30... Don't make me start on Roid Jones.
Quite good against most fighters. Are you serious? Oh my God, this guy is really serious.. :rofl Curtis Stevens.. the man, who in his prime.. couldn't take out Marcos Primera and got knocked down and out.. Curtis Stevens, who was merely a gate keeper for a green Andre Dirrell and Jesse Brinkley.. After losing to Brinkley, he was so embarrassed and fed up with boxing that he retired for 2 years, came back in 2012, knocked out 3 bums and had a decision before facing GGG. The only reason Stevens got that fight was from talking **** to GGG in twitter, saying he was gonna put GGG into a body bag. Everyone knows what happened after, and what has happened since. Splitting draws with Gabe Rosado in BKB.. :rofl
I find it puzzling when guys put down a fighter who has done everything right. GGG hasn't been beaten, hasn't been knocked down, hasn't even been hurt. Has 30 KOs in 33 fights against tough competition and yet guys want to say he is average. He is a decent human being, polite, works hard to speak the language, has come from a humble background, doesn't put anyone down. What's not to like about Golovkin? Might he have lost to RJJ, Hagler, Leonard, Hearns, Toney? Sure, maybe but we will never know. So why put the guy down? He is a class act unlike so many thugs who have been in this business. Give the guy his due.
Dude I'm not talking about what they did in their 30's I'm talking at their best since that's where GGG is now and those fighters at their best beat GGG IMO.
When two great punchers meet it's usually the one with the better chin that finishes the fight on his feet.
Jackson was the hardest puncher I've ever seen. He could KO a guy with his pinky finger. Too bad he couldn't take it like he could dish.
