Saturday was the 1st time I got a chance to watch Chocolatito and he really rose to the occasion against a well respected class operator and showed he deserves the #3 p4p spot in style. Effective pursuer w/ 2 fisted power and great ring generalship. HBO has a new little man superstar IMHO.
Good-news/Bad-news The Inoue super fight will be on hold, Gonzales said he wants at least 2 more defenses at Flyweight before moving up...he is however happy to fight Inoue in the future and a fight next year seems to make a lot of sense.
Expected to be back in August, his hand is fine and he's just waiting for Ohashi and Fuji TV to get a bout sorted. From what I understand Fuji TV (who have Inoue on an exclusive contract) are set to massively overhaul their commitment to boxing so I suspect things are going to move quickly over the next few weeks.
Oh that's great. I was under the impression he might have had a Christmas fight at the earliest but that's very good.
I would like to see Amnat RuenRoeng of Thailand ( never saw him fight, but he holds the IBF belt ) fight Gonlazez in a title unification match. I highly doubt it will happen. Ruenroeng only has 5 Ko's in 15 fights would not be able to get Gonzalez's respect at all!
??? Gonzalez looked like a master in his prime. The speed, power, punch variety, footwork, laser like accuracy and aggression were amazing. And he hits too hard for anyone at flyweight to stand up and fight back. Looks like a once in a generation type of fighter to me.
Ruenroeng is a very good boxer whom I rate very highly. Hes clever in the way he doesn't get sucked into a brawl but he has some pop that could keep Gonzalez honest for a few rounds. He's very slick so Roman woukd have to be at his best but I still think it's a pretty easy fight for him as Gonzalez is just that good
The only guy I think gives him a fight at 112 is Estrada. A lot is made of the depth of Flyweight but for me it's those two and everybody else. I think Segura, Ruenroeng, Ioka, Viliora etc all get wiped out fairly quickly be Gonzalez
No news on potential foes but we can rule Kono out. He's going to be fighting Koki Kameda in July or August (90% likely to be late July) in the US under the PBC banner. We can also rule out Cuadras I suspect and Tete so no unification on his return. For what it's worth Cuadras, Parrenas and Villanueva were all suggested earlier in the year.
