GGG has skills on par with anyone in boxing. He prefers to be a Mexican style wrecking ball, but if he had to, he could give Floyd a fantastic boxing match (he wouldnt though - he'd knock Floyds head off)
It's funny but I never heard someone ever avoided Ward. Something like that has never been mentioned even when Ward won Super Six. There must be a reason for that.
Yeah there are probably certain factors Ward should be worried about being a B-side, such as: - Ward will probably want those pillow gloves that Mayweather likes, whereas GGG will look to the punchers mitts - Ward will probably want a large ring whereas GGG will want a tiny one - Ward will probably want to come in as big as possible to bully midget GGG, whereas GGG might insist on a re-hydration clause. -Ward will probably want Joe Cortez from the Calzaghe-Hopkins fights as ref to allow him to get away with roughing up....whereas GGG will probably want Joe Cortez from the Hatton-Mayweather fight to stop that roughing up. I really think the outcome of the GGG-Ward fight could depend and who gets A-side billing.
Regarding the part I put in bold, this is especially true if he maintains his recent activity rate. And personally, even though I think Golovkin probably stops him in the middle rounds, I think him and Lee would make a great s****, and it would be interesting to see what happens if Andy found a way to land a couple of good right hooks.
Thanks for watching. With the Geale fight quickly approaching, might be a good time to suffer a cut in training. I really think he should reconsider going through with that one.
Two quick points: 1. I'm not convinced that Ward can no longer make 168. In fact I highly doubt that to be true. I could be wrong, but I'd think that, rather, he is hedging his bets to see where the opportunities arise - north or south of 172. 2. I don't think Floyd-GGG does huge numbers compared to Floyd against any number of other fighters who are smaller than GGG and easier fights for Floyd. And relatively speaking, Ward and Golovkin are far closer to each other than anyone of the true cash cows in boxing.
I think he could have success at 168, too. But I don't think it's a shame in the sense that, if GGG keeps fighting and winning against the best willing available middleweights, an opportunity will eventually present itself. Until that time, he needs to stay the course and keep bringing excitement to the fans. :good
Very much so, and I think it's gotten progressively worse since the mid-90s - although maybe I was just naive and not noticing it as much at that time.
I don't agree with this. If they fight, I reckon Ward would probably be the A-side in negotiations and that GGG would probably bend to his will and fight in Oakland. In terms of actual accomplishment, Ward has done far more than GGG. Golovkin's best case to A-side is activity, and activity alone, as Ward's best 5 wins still trump any victories GGG has on his ledger. Now it's conceivable that perception is shifting GGG's direction because of activity, but with Ward back in action soon, I think you'll see that HBO probably still views Ward as a bigger attraction.
Hey! I dedicated an entire episode being critical of Ward for putting any restrictions on a rematch with Froch!
I just read somewhere that Kathy Duva said she is negotiating with Rock Nation for a 2016 Ward vs Kovalev bout. Has anyone else heard or read this anywhere?
