in my honest opinion, a case can be made for him just clearly because he looks the most phenomenal on film. i see him beating greats like robinson, walker, fitz, moore, burley, etc. he pretty much can beat every one of them in my opinion. what do you guys think

There are huge, massive Q marks over Roy Jones.

    1) His PED use (/abuse).

    2) His chin (or lack of).

But he probably showed the best athleticism and most amazing punching in a boxing ring we've seen.

A potential greatest fighter EVER doesn't get KTFO as many times as Jones has been, particularly in the way, and by the guys who did it to him. Just take the guy generally reckoned to be the best ever. Walker Smith had 200 fights, was only stopped once by heat exhaustion 3 rounds after they carted the referee out for the same thing. The man was never put to sleep the way Jones was.

Not even close to being the best EVER.

While he is clearly not the best fighter ever, his chin didn't show signs of weakness until he was in his mid-30's, had already beaten two of the greatest fighters of his generation, captured numerous belts and was a consensus pick as one of the two best fighters in the game for a decade.

How many other fighters do we judge on their performances at 34? Marciano and Dempsey were retired. Robinson was losing to Jones, Turpin and Fullmer. His contemporary Pernell Whitaker was done at that age...

I don't reward early retirements as greatness in my book.

    Hell to the NO...

I thought Tarver was just as good if not better. Considering the first time they fought Roy ended up staring at his eyelids,;then in the rematch he was soundly beaten on points...

And I don't give a damn about their ages. Considering Tarver was a year older..

He was 29 when Del Valle dropped him, and please spare us any of that flash knockdown rubbish. When he got up he walked toward's the ropes, and desperately held on for almost all the rest of the round. The fact that he was fed Grant and Frazier afterwards was proof enough there were concerns for his whiskers for me.

Oh, and SRR was having his one hundred and thirty first fight when he lost to Randy Turpin, a defeat he avenged in his hundred and thirty second.

The only thing Jones avenged was his own idiotic DQ against Griffin. He was certainly in no hurry to get back in with Johnson, Green, or Lebedev, thats for fuking sure.

How old was Ali when Sonny Banks and Henry Cooper dropped him? How old was Harry Greb when Joe Chip knocked him the **** out? How old was Joe Louis when Schmeling knocked him out? When Braddock and Galento knocked him down? Are boxers no longer allowed to be knocked down? Is this just a video game to the modern observer?

And I see that Ali was in no hurry to avenge his loss to Holmes and Berbick. Or Robinson his loss to the Pender. This is just absolute nonsense that a fighter like Marciano, a great fighter, can spend 7 years in the paid ranks, retire undefeated and never be questioned whiles guys who have an incredible track record (again, consensus top 2 fighter in the game for ONE DECADE) but stay in the game too long are penalized for poor career planning. Absolute unintellectual nonsense.

Just like Roy wanted no more and WASN'T in a hurry to face Calzaghe again after Joe beat the living **** outta him:deal

Sugar Ray Leonard was miles ahead of Jones, and more athletic too, and quicker, and faced much stronger opposition, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY WAS MORE DURABLE, and had a way better chin, (stopped only once at 41) and fought back in the days of 15 rounders:deal

And never took PEDS!, and was a better color commentator to boot, Jones commentating sucks..

Prime Jones is one of those fighters whom I see very few other fighters beat, head-to-head. But does that make him the best fighter ever? I guess it depends on how you define "best." He's still beatable, though, and I always wonder about his chin. In other words, I have my reservations.
