What would you say were Bernard Hopkins' career defining wins before 1998, when he was also 33 years old?
Who or what Gennady fights next, we only guess at. One thing is for certain. GGG is only a fight away from his first loss. Despite his record, GGG has developed some bad habits. He will not get away leading his chin as his defense in future. The man he should have finished in round two, Willy Monroe, hit him on the chin for three rounds, while GGG swung haymakers. So much like Kostya Tszu, GGG is his own worst enemy. For 33 professional fights he is used to dominating. Change that scenario against Froch. You will see GGG is mortal after all.
Perhaps GGG will use Frochs' 5' reach advantage against him, or 2' height advantage. Maybe he could rely on Frochs' lack of durability or low output, what if Froch freezes in the spotlight? I mean it's not like he's fought in front of a big crowd before or been in a succesion world tittle fights for the last 5 yrs. GGG hypetrain heading for the buffers, woo! woo!!!
Yup. Golovkin is cautious against big hitters until they have been worn down. He definitely was wary of Stevens until late in the fight. People musn't think he is easy to hit because he takes risks against featherfists.
I think it's the fight that GGG needs and the one that will put him on the map. A convincing win over Froch on British soil will cement him as a huge draw. There's nobody to challenge him at MW, and those that could put up a bit of resistance are too busy ducking. I also think that we will see a better, craftier, more boxing-oriented Golovkin than the "slugger" version that's been on display lately. As you said, Froch has some significant advantages that cannot simply be wished away, and he's certainly no wilting wallflower. It should be a ******* of a fight. :bbb
this was my first thought as well , but the more i thought about it the more it got me thinking , golovkin just cant get the fights at middleweight , we know he wants to unify but whats the point if he has to wait 3 years before it happens , he would have used up half his remaining career before he gets the actual fight for the big money . a froch fight would be massive money and propel him to the top of the tree should he win , is there really any point waiting around anymore for a fight he may never get with cotto .
Nah, there's a reason the fight is in the works. You really think Froch would retire from boxing with a KO defeat? GGG doesn't have anywhere near the engine that Froch possesses, and that's going to be the factor in this fight if it happens.
Great matchup whatever the result, it will be what May-Pac should have been, it's just a shame for boxing that it won't command the same media interest.
I don't disagree, but you can't argue that Froch has a far inferior skill set to Golovkin, it's not even close.
