Sky Sports and Matchroom Sport have extended their exclusive UK and Ireland broadcast partnership until 2021, offering up to 120 nights of live boxing over the next six years. What do you think on this?
No other option FW promotions are on boxnation and no other UK promoter is worth showing on SKY. I do hope they keep showing Sauderland shows however
Good for the boxers no doubt, maybe too much security for Hearn, so it could be bad for the fans. I still feel he and his stable betters any other in the UK so I am relatively happy to see this.
Sky seemed to include a lot of other promoter's fighters before their stable got so big - Coldwell etc. Hopefully a five year deal will give them the security to do more of this; helping raise the profile of more fighters and small hall promoters
Can someone tell me why it's always "An exclusive" contract Why can sky not show other promotors shows? Do Matchroom have the clout to dictated this to BSKYB?
Matchroom provide Sky with alot of other content other than boxing , this definitely has some impact when negotiating their boxing contract no doubt.
whatever you think of Hearn and his shows the public seem to have taken to them... he has almost used the successful darts roadshow model
:yep I laughed at that. Hearn is putting on ppv and getting decent buy nunbers for cards that Sky would have included in the subscription only a couple of years ago!! He's making them a fortune. Sky's hierarchy loves Eddie, as this deal proves!!
:yep Barry Hearn's success and long-term close relationship with Sky's executives undoubtedly helped Eddie a great deal.
Likely means more PPVs but hopefully a renewed relationship with Sauerland and maybe a new one with K2. Joshua is staying with Eddie for the meantime then.
That's the key. The casual punter has been willing to pay for cards that would have been part of their Sky subscription a couple of years ago. Sky love that more than anything, so if course they are going to stick with the guy who has been able to provide the significant additional revenue.
Definitely more ppvs. As for AJ, it certainly looks like it, but who knows. And like you, I hope we get to see more K2 and Sauerland cards.
