Probably about as hard as anybody of his weight has ever hit.

He broke the jaw of sparring partner Big Ben Wray in two places with one punch.Wray was over 7 foot and 300lbs.

He hit really hard. The impact of his punches against big Willard is quite evident on film, he's knocking that big lump about quite handily.

if Marciano had done this to wray you would be tearing apart wray as a nothing of an opponent.

Marciano > Dempsey. Deal with it

It certainly helps when that guy as you say is a lump...with no skills who hadn't fought in 4 years

Dempsey is the only fighter I have ever seen that gets so much praise for beating up on unskilled opponents and then when he faced skilled opponents, he struggled and people make excuses for him.

He made the bags move quite a distance just by one big shots, not even with combinations. That is an example of his power for you.

There are some variables that should be in question with Dempsey, but his power is not one of them.

I don't think that any heavyweight under 190lbs, has ever been so destructive, either before or since.

No one denies Joe Louis power. Jack Sharkey who fought both men felt Dempsey hit harder. "If he hits you in the shoulder he breaks your shoulder. If he hits you to the body it felt like his fist comes out your back. If he hits you in the hip he dislocates your hip". If people are at a point that they are questioning Dempseys punching power how much more convoluted can they get?

Wray was a sparring partner, not an opponent.
Marciano was not Dempsey and when Rocky won the title he was called a poor facsimile of Jack.Deal with that FanBoy!

    Greater fighter?

    Maybe.

    Harder puncher?

    Perhaps.

    Better finisher?

    Not even close.

He was a skinny weakling who took about 5000 punches to stop Willard and Firpo with paper thin gloves, so not that hard by HW standards, decent power for a Cruser or LHW though
