This is a guy that has worked under world class trainers such as Rudy Pérez and Sendai Tanaka, but has struggled at times with his conditioning and discipline. Four years on with Freddie Roach, they seem to be hitting a stride. (a mutually beneficial relationship, as the 7-time BWAA Trainer of the Year is coming off a spate of losses and some of the studs of his Wild Card stable either slowing down or sputtering out, while El Niño de Oro is smack in his prime...) Check him out today, nine days out from his WBC 135lb title clash with Kevin Mitchell, after "160 rounds of sparring" in training camp so far: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CFk859eUsAAjfdG.jpg  Beast mode. Not a beauty pageant, I know, but for a guy that has always possessed ample talent but had question marks surrounding the dedication one needs to go along with such talent, you can't help but view the sheer volume of work he's putting in and the visible results as good signs.
Of all the British world title challenges/ defenses in the space of few weeks (McDonnell, DeGale, Mitchell, Selby), Linares is the only one I've picked to beat one of our boys. Hoping his chin gets smashed again or his paper face falls apart though.
Linares' chief sparring partner has been 21-year-old, 6-0 Gary Shaw/Roc Nation prospect Kenneth Sims Jr., who also prepped Manny Pacquiao for his Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega-fight.
He's f*cked then. Needs to get a sparring partner in who can prepare him better, this one's clearly not much help. :yep
Interestingly, the main sparring partner for Mitchell (another guy who used to struggle with discipline) is his former conqueror Ricky Burns. :think Mitchell and Burns have actually helped each other spar for a long time now, since at least Crawford vs. Burns IIRC... Sort of a huge gap in class (or at least experience and proven mettle) between Sims & Burns, yeah..
Burns has been helping him for this fight? :think I thought he'd be busy carrying out a hit on Laurence Cole.
Well, they were sparring, ahead of Burns vs. Figueroa - it would be a bit rude for Ricky to bail on him and just take his ball and go home with Kev having such an important assignment of his own coming up. Not sure if he's still in camp tbh.
your a cold hearted mothertrucker cts. he cant change the way he looks. :-( I got Kevin Mitchell by KO. Mitchell could be when all said is done the best lw on the planet, with Crawford and burns up at 140. he could beat bey and omar figueroa
