There should be less tolerance for clinching, imo. The decision to deduct points should be far more punitive for repeat offenders.

Also, a more radical suggestion, they should construct a ring that can be engineered to easily and quickly change proportions so that the size can incrementally be shrunken down as the fight wears on. Perhaps start off with a 20' x 20' ring and every 3 rounds or so, downsize by a squared foot. The obvious idea is to induce more action as the fight unfolds.

Where do you stop? Why have gloves, make it bare knuckles. Why have rounds, make it until someone gives up, no breaks, no judges, no refs. Why have weight divisions, stop the P4P BS and prove you can fight any man.

 

There are many exhibitions of skill which are not entertaining and many low skill spectacles which are highly entertaining. Deal with it.

I've always been in favor of a smaller ring.

And clinching, no matter who the perpetrator is, is bad for the sport.

I never mentioned Floyd because it's not about him. It's about how to improve the sport of boxing.

Those are good suggestions. Smaller rings means more action and harder sanctions on clinching would speed things up and increase the number of punches thrown. I agree with this.

I also agree that it's not just about Floyd Mayclincher. It's also about Wladimir Klinchko and others exploiting certain loopholes in the sports rules to win at the expense of entertainment. Close the loopholes and make it a more watchable, and possibly a fairer game. Hopkins, Ward, Lara, and Rigondeaux are all just as guilty. Maybe even Kell Brooks clinched too much against Porter. Holyfield's clinchwork against Tyson and Young's clinching against Foreman were also fairly egregious examples.
