The sanctioning bodies and their trinkets have turned the sport into a joke.

 

I wonder if they'll be at random weights. We could have Broner/Porter with the 144 LB title, Garcia for 143 LB, and Fonfara at 172.

I don't think this will make the sanctioning bodies obsolete. What will happen is that we'll have HBO + the rest of the world with certain fighters, and PBC with the rest.

Personally, I'd rather have the likes of Crawford, Kovalev, GGG, Roman Gonzalez, and Wladimir Klitschko than the PBC stable, but I'm sure many will disagree.

The biggest reason I think they want their own belts is so they avoid the disasters that happen when mandatory challengers defeat their titlists. We've seen Kell Brook, Jamie McDonnell, Vasyl Lomachenko, and James DeGale all come in and school the more ballyhooed Haymon fighter.
