Just watched the Floyd and Pacquiao fight in slow motion and was shocked at how pac made Floyd miss and counter punched him over and over again.
Funny seeing this thread a few days after the fight yet recently he has been claiming Floyd won by way of robbery, and he isn't a great boxer.
you can deny everything for floyd, you may not even respect him. But when it comes to skill, this mofo is one of the best. I'm even more impressed on how he keeps his shape with all that money. Discipline!
Pac actually beat him I suggest you go watch the fight in slow mo. If Floyd is great you have to rate pac even greater.
I think people sometimes sell Floyd short by saying (correctly) that he doesn't throw combinations, doesn't sit down on his punches etc. Sure, if you go through all of the different skills that exist in boxing and check them off in relation to Floyd, he might not win the award for most versatile or widest array of skills. But another factor is just how well someone executes the skills they do have. This is where I think people undersell Floyd. If fighting on the outside, moving, landing single shots with precision and simultaneously avoiding getting hit by anything solid was easy, everyone would be doing it. Floyd's combination of speed, accuracy, control of movement and reflexes is extraordinary- so good that he easily wins fights in a manner that some people just can't accept. He has detractors convincing themselves he has lost fights he has won because they can't comprehend that he can be so dominant using that style. That is a testament to how well he executes it. I don't think anyone would EASILY beat Floyd because his execution of the skills he has perfected mean that against ANY opponent he won't get hit much and he will always land crisp shots.
meh. to have "the best skills of all time" you have to test your skills against guys that could possibly outbox you or outpoint you. Floyd never really fought a prime technician that gave him a run for his money boxing ability - wise. Sugar Ray Leonard to me has superior skills to floyd. James Toney could possibly have the nod too, guys like Curry, McCallum, Ali, Robinson, Napoles, Duran, Hagler, Hearns, all arguably had "superior" if not equal skills to Floyd.
Don't know about all around best skill, but he adjusts as well as anyone who has ever laced the gloves.
Castillo, Maidana? What prime ATG did he beat? Why did ancient Cotto give him problems? Augustus? Old DLH? etc. Judah stole rounds and dropped him, old Mosley rocked him to his boots. Floyd has NEVER been dominant and has stunk out the place against C grade fighters such as Baldomir. He doesn't 'easily' win fights unless he's fighting Gatti or someone who doesn't move. He's a guy who hasn't proved himself and is very lucky to have his zero. I'm not a Pac fan and always picked Floyd to beat him five years ago, but after seeing that fight I think Pac would've beat him and it explains why Floyd dodged him until he had been knocked out. I'm a massive Rigo fan, I'm a fan of Toney, Whitaker etc. so you can't tell me I don't like him because of his style. His style is more Hopkins potshot style anyway, Hopkins gets a pass for that because he's a hundred years old and fighting the best, Floyd uses it to beat Carlos ****ing Baldomir. Floyd isn't a fighter, his skills are overrated, his defense is overrated and there are many fighters who would easily beat him.. Duran, JCC, prime DLH, Whitaker etc.
Much respect for this post. First post I ever see that completely turns around my opinion of a fellow forum dweller. You're alright mang. :good
