ok guys,i'm just re-watching some of bowe's fights, the man was a beast! first of all,he was a huge guy (big daddy ) , 6'5 , 235-245 lbs , 81 inch reach, great chin, great stamina for a big man ( never saw lewis or klits going hard 12 rounds like bowe against holyfield)... great jab, great right hand and uppercut, great combos for a big man, especially inside. this is what emmanuel steward said about rid**** bowe: "I remember very distinctively the night that he knocked out Jesse Ferguson because I was there in the arena because his next fight was going to be against a guy who I had just made a deal to start training named Evander Holyfield, who he already beat. He looked so good that night that in the post fight press conference I mentioned to Eddie and to at the time Rock Newman his manager and I said he looked like he became a complete perfect fighter and I didn’t even know how the hell I was going to even train Evander to beat him. I mean he looked so good, he was doing everything—the jabs, the uppercuts, combinations, he was just doing everything. " people talk how lennox lewis had a good right uppercut, well comparing his right uppercut to bowe's is like comparing wlad klitsckos's uppercut to lennox lewis's uppercut. i think he may be the best hw h2h when on his peak! yea, tony tubbs did give him some problems, but he was not peak in that fight. i think bowe most difficult fights would be against ali and holmes, but he has a big size advantage over them, plus they never faced such a big man with that kind of inside fighting!don't know how could they keep him off i think he would beat a prime tyson,he had a chin to survive tyson's best, he had the guts when he was peak, he had that great jab, and most importantly that great right uppercut which is waiting for tyson inside! :yep plus bowe has a better stamina,he put a beating on holyfield in a 10th round, and put him down in the 11th!never saw tyson active like that in late rounds foreman may overpower, but bowe is just too technical for him, straighter and faster punches. sonny liston may have beat him, but bowe may have been too big for him i think he would have stopped lennox lewis, and the klits... your thoughts??
I tend to agree. One of the greatest HWs of all time in my book. His technical proficiency is beyond underrated , he had Joe Louis type movement. Lennox Lewis wanted no part of him. The opposite is popular belief bu thats all it is - popular belief. Anybody who thinks Lewis and Pepe beat Bowe and Fuch around 93-94 lives on cloud cuckoo land.
this is true, he had that great balance and leverage on his punches and combos, just like the legendary joe louis...add to that that he was much bigger than louis , scary...
no one's having an easy night against the best version of bowe, i like ali and lewis a little more h2h vs the historical field tho.
He is a head to head beast, he'd beat anyone under 210 pretty much. ALi, Lennox and Wlad beat him though. I think he could pull off wins over Foreman, Liston, Frazier, Dempsey, Marciano, Jack Johnson and Joe Louis. He just has too much quick firepower and strength for them.
i'm talking h2h - the best version... bowe from the first holyfield fight and fergusson fight was a beast
powerpuncher i know you like lennox lewis, but in my opinion, bowe was a more complete fighter...he had way better inside game, and also i think a better chin than lewis, more proven chin. also i think bowe matches better with tyson style wise. remember that lewis blasted his big heavyweight opponents, being agressive and making a boxing match into a fight...and guess what, bowe had a better inside game, great short combos inside, and was a helluva fighter... that's why i favor bowe over lewis. just saw your edited post...glad to see you givin bowe props. agree pretty much with you, expect i favor bowe over lewis, and especially wlad...i think peak bowe destroys wlad, destroys...no way can wlad handle that pressure and physical fight that bowe would bring. also don't know how would ali control him in clinches, bowe is a lot bigger, and those uppercuts are nasty...bowe isn't a 205 frazier, ali won't control him inside...
first holyfield fight, and his first two defenses... see what emmanuel steward said about bowe in fergusson fight... i never saw a big man putting punches together like bowe did it...
holyfied 1? the qusetion mark is honest because you raise a fair point, there is an element of adding up what he showed in different fights to reach the conclusion he was top notch h2h, but beating an excellent fighter on a lot of roids(we don't know bowe wasn't but there is no real reason for suspicion) is a great result and he looked good achieving it.
He was very good but sold out his longevity on bad training and poor defense. Ferguson wasn't much to brag about. On the flip side, he struggled to finish off the extremely ordinary Coetzer, resorting to low blows...
