I agree if Cotto doesnt want to fight GGG then drop the belt but he hasnt showed he doesnt and he has a voulentary defense..

SO ppl need to stop saying he doesnt want to fight him. geale, Canelo and if he wins then GGG. preety simple

Cotto fights for the belt at catch-weight, takes a year lay off (just because he feels like it), now is making a voluntary at catch-weight, then wants another voluntary at (most likely) another catch-weight.

Do you see a problem here? If you don't then I don't know what to tell ya :good

took a fight against Martinez then nobody though he was gonna win (that takes *****) gonna fight geale a top 5 MW and now wants to make the biggest fight in boxing...

HELL NO I SEE NO PROBLEM!! Winner will fight GGG For Sure!! so Cotto could be an underdog in 3 of his last 4 fights and ppl wanna say hes taking the easy route...WOWWWW!!! Name another boxer thats been an underdog in 3 of 4 fights?? Didnt think so

Yeah, I just don't get it. Cotto has proven himself over the course of years. He always fights top comp. Why scrutinize a guy who has been in so many good fights against good comp? Why get on a guy for going after a fight that everyone wants to see in which he would probably be the underdog? I think you hit the nail on the head with this thread. People need to show Cotto the respect has earned and deserves.

Going to address your and Stylez post at the same time:

The Canelo part is the issue here. GGG is mandatory for winner of Cotto-Geale. Not the winner of Cotto-Geale/Canelo. That means it is his turn.

As far as money goes, one thing you are all overlooking is that while Cotto-Canelo is a much bigger fight in total take, Cotto-GGG is still a very big fight and Canelo will be taking a much much larger share of the pot than GGG. That Cotto himself will make vastly more money fighting Canelo is actually not a given.

Yeah dude hes fought nothing but the best all the time!! The disrespect for Cotto is ridiclous and its really only cuase hes MW Champ!! But nobody wants to blame martinez for ducking GGG and trying to pick on the smaller guy he thought he can beat up!! Well Cotto defened himself and his bout to make a mega fight in Canelo that ppl say he will lose anyways!!!

Let ppl keep doubting him, im just happy to have him in boxing. once of the few thats fought Mayweather and Pacquiao, fought Pauile,Judah,Mosley, Margarito twice,Trout,Martinez, looks like Canelo possibly.... I MEAN DAMNNNNNNN!! :bbb:bbb

Well the WBC recently said that Cotto can fight Canelo first, so there goes that argument.

Canelo vs Cotto has the potential to push towards 1M buys. Golovkin has never been on PPV. Even with a 50/50 split, Cotto stands to make a good chunk more against Canelo than Golovkin.

Well dude things happen!! you acting like this is the first case!! Thats the problem i have. HBO/Cotto/GBP want to make the biggest fight in boxing!! Like i;ve said before, name a bigger fight in boxing that can be made???? THATS WHAT I THOUGHT!! So of course HBO/Cotto/Canelo/GBP/WBC want to make the biggest fight in boxing...and you have a problem with that???

Whats gotten into some boxing fans these days!!! cant believe ppl are complaining about a Mega fight with Cotto-Canelo, probably the only fight that can do 1+ PPV buys, get a massive amount of casuals because Cotto is well known from fighting the best, and ppl want complain?????

    DUMB A$$E$$!!! :nono:nono:nono

Actually plenty of blame for Martinez, just he has been effectively retired since the Cotto fight whether he admitted it or not so there has been little merit in belaboring the point.

On a personal level, I don't blame Martinez nor do I even blame Cotto. Heck, Martinez himself knows firsthand how horrible the sanctioning orgs can be.

The rancid sanctioning bodies, and certain fan segments that act as enablers are actually my primary beef.

in this case i have no problem with the WBC. there trying to make the biggest fight in boxing, then have probably the 2nd biggest fight in boxing right after that!

And its not really them because GGG is already a champ. it would suck if he didnt have a belt but he does. Cotto can drop the WBC and still be MW King! so dont blame WBC at all. and Cotto wont drop because he wants these fights

Cotto-Canelo (1+PPV buys, casual fans see a classic, not a dud like May-Pac) GGG-Lemiux/Ndam/Lee/ebunak Jr etc etc swoop up another belt then when these 2 winners fight we have another mega fight with close to undisputed MW king on the line!!

Damn that sounds good, cant believe it doesnt for others. just a bunch of haters, and ya all know you gonna watch these fights because there gonna be great :deal

Whoa there buddy, that's pretty gutsy to try and say I am acting like it is the first time in one sentence then call me a dumbass in another.

    Irony at its best?

The reason it sucks is because it happens too often. Some of you talk about "biggest fights" and "good of the sport", while completely ignoring the dramatic downward effect on the sports popularity completely ignoring the sporting aspect has.

Right, I'm not saying Cotto G is definitely uncompetitive, I'm just saying that's what they definitely believe and yet that's what's they want to see. They don't make sense and I'm just calling that out.
