Pacquiao was a belt holder in 8 divisions. Not World Champion. World Champion suggests he was unified, and the best of the division. I don't think Pac would have beat Juan Guzman. Might not have beaten Raheem, or Nate Campbell when he was hot.

Pacquiao did face the much stiffer opposition between the two, and it isn't even close. Calzaghe has Hopkins, and Kessler. Pac has Barrera, Morales, Cotto, etc.

Calzaghes resume is viewed as extremely soft, and his best win is highly controversial. He was awarded a majority decision despite landing no more than 50 punches.

    There is not arguement Barry.
How can a fighter who has been KOd and beaten on several occasions compare to a fabulous 46-0, clear ruler of a division with 24 world title victories be compared. They cant

It will ruffle some feathers but bhop deserved the nod for sure. As you say calzaghe landed nothing, what he did land were sloppy pitty-patty slaps and he got dropped.

I think you are under selling pac

He was backing late because he was 43 and fighting out of his natural weight class , plus absorbed at least one low-blow.

Pac had 10x joe's resume before he made it to lightweight

Correct, Zaggers was so good he has a list unto his own. Then all the other lesser fighters in history are on a separate list. :happy

Pacquiao's opponents read like a Who's Who of boxing...

    Calzaghe's reads like a Who's that?

As much as I liked Joe, it is a ridiculous question, it is not even close.

In a 46 fight career, Calzaghe basically has 2 wins against top level fighters and one of those was a highly debatable SD, in which he got dropped, against a 43 year-old that he was a huge favorite to beat.

No comparison, Pacquiao will always light up the history books with his incredible jump through the weight divisions in recent times.

Calzaghe will be remembered as a great 168lber, but far too many duff or unknown opponents on his resume in the grand scheme of things. And his best opponents (or names rather) came far too late in his career.
