Jerry Quarry should've been in a longtime ago... Wins over Shavers, Patterson & Buster Mathis and Mac Foster should be enough to do it !

Even so, quarry performed very very well. Has a lot of big wins over top level HWs like shavers, foster and lyle.

Lyle was his best performance in my book.

You don't understand the cruiserweight is an unimportant division
    seemingly nobody cares.
Best example Holyfield who was the best and maybe an unbeatable cruiserweight fighter . And what happened ? He changed his division and collected 10 heavyweight losses. What's your opinion why ?
For nothing ? Is he crazy?

Hard to say who should rate higher, Quarry or Witherspoon.. Both had career ups and downs.

    Quarry beat

    - Ron Lyle
    - Earnie Shavers
    - Buster Mathis
    - Floyd Patterson
    - Mac Foster
    - Thad Spencer
    - Larry Middleton

    Witherspoon Beat

    - Tony Tubbs
    - Greg Page
    - James Smith
    - Frank Bruno
    - James Broad
    - Quick Tillis
    - Renaldo Snipes
    - Carl Williams
    - Jose Ribalta
    - Jorge Gonzalez
    - Alfred Cole

While Quarry's list shines a bit brighter, Spoon's list is a little longer and deeper.. Witherspoon also has two alphabet world title claims, while even though there weren't as many chances to get those kinds of straps in Quarry's day, he did blow his chance at a vacant crown against Jimmy Ellis. Witherspoon's final record was 55-13-1-38 and Quarry's was 53-9-4-32.. Tim was stopped four times and Jerry was stopped on six occasions. Spoon has a few more defeats but 10 out of 13 of his losses came when he was between the ages of 34-46. It should also be noted that he took on Larry Holmes in only his 16th pro bout and gave a good enough account of himself to where some even gave him a victory or a draw.. Its also widely accepted that he was robbed against Ray Mercer.. Both Tim and Jerry were beaten by lesser fighters as well as elite ones..

I might be inclined to rate spoon a tad higher on the basis of a deeper win list, fewer losses during prime years, durability and the claim to those two alpha titles.. He was also ranked a combined 10 years by ring magazine. Haven't checked up on Quarry but I think it was around 7 years.

Excellent post! I think Witherspooon is a top 25 all time heavyweight, and one who was denied a title shot vs Tyson. If you can give a prime Larry Holmes all you can handle and win alphabet world title belts, you are very good.

No, but I didn't think Bowe getting in was entirely copacetic either.

Fuk it, let everybody in. It's only a glorified golf / freemason's type club anyway, with a committee picking who they like.

If Bowe got in ,then Quarry and Witherspoon do to.As should Milton McCrory, Howard DAvis jr, and Rocky Lockridge, along with Juan Laporte.

Yeah but Gatti vs. Ward I, II & III shouldn't be enough to get either of them elected into the...oh, wait. :!:

I mean, you're right, he burned pretty brightly for that short time, but it was a short time and short prime, and by "what ought to be HOF standards" (which admittedly don't sync up with "the reality of what HOF standards are") he didn't quite do enough in terms of resume depth.

I can see it debated either way...just remember finding myself joining in the collective groan @ pretty much his entire class of inductees, whenever that was (last year? One before?) - his being the class' strongest case and not a consensus lock by any means.

Bowe got annihilated twice by Golota... The HOF is so easy to get into. Everyone else relevant beat Golota easy.

Hello Bowe WON both those fights. Do you think Golota felt bad for kicking his ass that he decided to foul out?
