Literally 3 rounds into the fight and I totally felt foolish for considering Algieri an easy target for Khan's style. He definitely proved once again that he belongs up there and deserves respect even if he lost(in my opinion) to Provodnikov. I had Khan winning by 2 rounds but he definitely didn't do so easily and had to work hard to get there. If Algieri had power this could've been really ugly. But to Khan's credit, he still took and handled those blows and was never seriously hurt or stunned. Every punch he took he immediately responded back and was fully aware of what's going on without showing any signs of drowsiness whatsoever. I'm not really sure how Mayweather and his team will consider Khan after this fight. Surely Khan didn't look as spectacular as he would've hoped but that's definitely more Algieri's fault than Khan's and Khan still overcame him. Mayweather doesn't have many other options worth considering anyway unless he plans to move up to 160 for Cotto's Middleweight title. The Pacquiao rematch won't happen because Pacquiao and his team made it clear they need more time to heal.
Khan is just not as good as he's hyped to be and never was. What is so good about him? The one thing he has is great handspeed, but now that seems to have diminished. His intelligence has not improved, his chin is terrible, his power is average, and his skills were never anything to be impressed by. I will be surprised if he ever achieves anything bigger than the Maidana win, which is a fight he would lose 4 out of 5 times IMO. Of course he's had a career that one should be unbelievably proud of, especially considering how far he's gotten with a shaky ass chin. Plus, he's made a lot of money, so all should be good. But talking about the guy over the last 6-7 years like he is an elite fighter or even close to being one has always been silly and annoying. Floyd would knock the guy out easily. Thurman, lol.. you know what would happen. Even guys like Chaves or Guerrero would likely stop him. So lets stop talking about the guy like he's something bigger than he is.
I don't know what Mayweather's going to do. There's no doubt that he is going 50-0, finding two worthy opponents is hard let alone one. And worthy opponents that he'll be willing to fight, nonetheless! If he doesn't want to wait for another Pacquiao payday, then he should just retire.
Not that Mayweather cares, but the media, fans and history won't be kind on him if he picks Khan for a victory that evens up Marciano's legendary record. When Holmes tried to do it, he picked Michael Spinks. Sure, Spinks was smaller but he was undefeated and wasn't a joke as he proven by winning the fight. Khan would be a massive underdog in this one, I'm talking 10+ to 1 underdog.
algeiri was the one making the fight and landing hard blows to the body and head. khan was almost on the defensive while scoring points. it always baffles me why the defenders are winning close fights. i hope there would be better judging without money influencing the outcome of a fight.
Algieri was an effective aggressor. I too hate how fighters who are constantly on the back foot win close rounds. I would show more favoritism for the guys trying to force the fight, but it is what it is.
The judging was hardly surprising. I pretty much expected comical results and was literally doing other stuff while the result was still playing in the background. Boxing judges need to be prosecuted or this easily corruptible system needs a massive overhaul and improvement. It's seriously overly predictable and bearable at this point.
Even worse are supposed fans who question boxers, while the idiots type from a keyboard. :rofl They can't even get in the ring.
Pacquiao wasn't an effective aggressor, get over it. Algieri was outlanded & outboxed, he gave it a good fight but no way he won, 114-112 if you gave the close round to algieri, which mean he would've lost 7 rounds to 5.
I find, particularly with American judges, that they tend to favour the fighter coming forward. Some judges these days score rounds for aggression instead of correctly scoring them for effective aggression.
