I can see you've put some thought into this. :thumbsup A lot will depend on whether Ryders southpaw style will negate Blackwell jab - as is often the case when an 'orthodox' takes on a southpaw. Blackwell also needs to be wise to Ryder when it comes to all that 'spinning' and messy clinching and mauling that Ryder engages in. Keep Ryder Moving his feet, and as for himself - keep moving to the side and stepping out of the clinches as quick as possible. Keep a high workrate. Ryder could take chances with BJS because he knew BJS couldnt hurt him - not so with Blackwell. :bbb
Yep I agree that Ryder could take more chances with BJS, due to BJS's lack of power. I'm thinking Ryder may find it hardwork to land cleanly often enough against Blackwell due to his decent guard and Ryder's own lack of straight shots, I can see a lot of those cuffing hooks he throws hitting gloves tomorrow night. Jab will be key IF blackwell can land with it, even just keeping it busy in Ryder's face and off-setitng him, keeping a decent work-rate will cause issues for Ryder. I know Ryder is strong, but I'm genuinely wondering how he's going to get on against someone who is going to take it too him strength wise. Just taken a look at the weight-in and Blackwell looked massive on the scales actually.
Todays Blackwell is a world away from the reedy youth that Massive Martin Murray was able to dominate in what was - at the time - a missmatch.. Nick out muscled Khomitsky recently and we all know how strong HE is. Murray barely got past Sergey a short while before Blackwell fought him. Ryder better not be counting soley on out-muscling Blackwell, he'd better have a good boxing gameplan too!
Blackwell is very very good (and I am taking into account how young and inexperienced he is) but don't forget, Ryder may be looking a bit sloppy lately but at his best he really is a beast too with some really sharp snappy southpaw punching, and considering how much these guys like to as you say, muscle on the inside while making room for the shots, it's not going to be easy for either man It's also interesting how these are both men who were outhustled by Billy Joe Saunders and both came on strong at the end but I thought Ryder had the better parts of his fight with Saunders despite how much Nick has improved, if Ryder can be on top form, I think he is favourite I actually think it's kind of a shame that we have to have a loser here as both men can make some waves in this division
Even though ..as we feared...the southpaw style took his jab away, Nicks toughness, grit, sheer guts and fitness carried the day. Ryder would have run out of ideas/interest at that pace at some point ---and in the 7th it happened. Tough on Ryder but finally a great 'breakthrough 'win for Nick Blackwell! Told y'all!!!
Yep - You, me, Furey and a few other astute judges (apologies I forget their names) DID reckon Nick would do it. Everything went right for Ryder, and wrong for Blackwell, and he really had to tough it out in there, but he did just that. People forget that its a 12 round fight. Once tiredness set in and concentration started to slip, all Ryders 'slick smarts' fell away. The second half was always going to belong to Blackwell. Hope he learns from this - he did struggle with the slick southpaw. Rematch anyone?
I'm made up for Nick. Been a big fan since the Murray fight. Absolutely loving hearing Gary Lockett saying they have a ton to work on too.
Really glad for him also, had a bet on him to win the match, really nice guy and has a really good trainer to boot also in his corner, so see him pushing on (Was robbed against Bursak also for the European).
Just seen the stoppage, a bit so-so I would say, however he caught Ryder with a few very solid clean punches before Blackwell started to unload. Ryder looked to be getting a bit ragged and Blackwell looked very strong still, so I agree it's likely that he would of caused issues down the stretch. Have to remember it was only round 7 also, Ryder's face looked relatively busted up with another 5 rounds to go, so he was obviously starting to take punishment a lot more. I like Ryder but glad Nick won, will be shelling out to see him fight in the future.
