To be fair to Lewis, Acey's knee was off the canvas for a couple of those punches ....... but only because Lewis uppercutted him so hard he came off the deck

I was thinking about this the other day, and meant to start at thread.

Louis aside, are all the great heavies dirty as hell?

To embed, you just copy the part of the url address at the end, after the =

Then put [yt] quotes around it

I don't know if it's only Louis, but I do suspect that those who weren't dirty as hell would be a tiny minority.

Yeah, Larry Hazzard, New Jersey commissioner, seemed to be directing the referee there. He was pals with Bowe and Newman at that time.

The Lewis-Acey incident was worse for a foul.

Marciano's KO of Walcott in their first fight immediately comes to mind, though I don't think that Walcott's knee had touched the canvas before the late punch (though it seems like Marciano would've sneaked in that punch regardless).

The KO punch instantly knocked Walcott out anyway, but it made me think a little less of Marciano, considering how I heard how he was a pretty stand-up guy.

Gomez probably should have been disqualified or at more harshly punished and zarate given some recovery time in that fight.

harry gibbs uncharacteristic in losing control and bottling it as ref.
