In fairness, Louis as well as Moore was an exceptional ATG.

And Walcott was a very good champ.

*fighters who are good in their late thirties are rare, yes, but then so are fighters who are good, period. Denver Ed Martin and Lem Franklin and Tami Mauriello seemed to be past it by their mid-twenties.

First Ballot Hall Of Famers whom marciano went 4-0 with 4 knockouts against.

What was dempseys record against 37 year old Flynn? Did Flynn make the hall of fame?

32 year old Nino Valdes caught him...in one round. A 38 year old archie moore twice beat that same nino Valdes.

    McVea

Jack Dempsey himself claimed Marciano was a one punch knockout artist
    And that he was not.

Have you seen the quote or do u want me to post it?

I agree with you by 1955 he was no longer a one punch knockout artist..his style had changed, read his biography..it covers this portion. Goldman had taught Marciano how to shorten his punches to add volume but sacrifice power.

Prior to 1953 he was a legitimate one punch knockout artist. Rex layne jersey Joe Walcott Bernie Reynolds...some devastating one punch knockouts

First ballot Hall Of Famers who were past their primes.

Yes we know Flynn has a KO of Dempsey on his record it isn't necessary to mention it in every single thread, especially the ones that aren't about either Flynn or Dempsey.

Look carefully at the title of this thread, do you see any mention of Jack Dempsey in it? The idea that you are a Police Officer horrifies me:admin:yikes
If you want some food for thought read my posts about you and Mendoza on the Langford thread.

Why what does being a police officer have to do with talking boxing history?

Just like there are lots of washed up fighters these days who are in their mid 30's.

In 1955 Moore had just knocked out Harold Johnson to defend his title. Marciano fought that same version.

I don't think Rocky had the flu. Both fights came right before his landmark win over Rex Layne. It was the period where he dropped a level after the scare against Lastarza. They went back to the drawing board and took him away from the microscope of big time boxing to rebuild again up in Providence.

I think these fights represent the last fights where Rocky was still on the fringes of world class. Among a bunch of other prospects that he was proberbly no better than at that point. The kind of period where a fighter is somewhat overprotected, often they can be treading water too long and can go off the boil. Rocky said Weill thought he would lose to Layne. After these two slugish wins is there any wonder? As it turned out he was overdue a step up in class.

Those guys both gave Rocky a good fight. Good for them. The Rex Layne fight came just in time for Marciano because those two provided the right kind of resistance to prepare Rocky to win his big chance at the big time versus Layne.

I Wish there was more film.
