I have Floyd ranked #9 on my ATG list, what would he need to get to top 5? Or beyond?

That is not the fault of Armstrong, Moore or Charles. That is the fault of the one and only CST80 :nod

Right on.... i may have had a chance at the pro ranks, but i got into trouble.. now i focus my time on my son, and hopefully i help guide him into to the pro ranks some day... i commend you on your choice to live your own life and make your own legacy.... leaving boxing in full wheather a fighter or a trainer/cutman is a hard thing to do... are you still involved in boxing in some way?

No, I will have my own TV show coming soon. The scheduling would conflict with the boxing schedule, so I had to weigh the "Pros & Cons" and decide which avenue I wanted to take

I'd rather be tortured than to watch Sweet Pea. Yes my list is my own personal list and everyone should have their own personal lists as well.

What you're basically saying is everyone should have a list of fighters they consider the greatest of all time yet have no idea how good many of them were so they base their list mainly on hearsay or a few scraps of old footage floating around. Which I find disingenuous and yes...pretentious.

It's like having a list of the 100 greatest films of all time, yet you haven't seen at least 50 of them, but people say they're good so what the hell.

This was an old post of mine from 07-03-2014 of some of my experiences in boxing:

Alot of good tales to tell, such as:

    LIMO RIDE WITH TYRESE:
Back when Fast & Furious first came, Tyrese Gibson was a rising star in music & movies. he performed the National Anthem at a Black Tie VIP Boxing event in Georgia. Afterwards all participants were limoed to a private dinner. Seating was done via lottery & I got to ride with Tyrese. My fiancee's best friend was a big Tyrese fan & I had mentioned it to him. Being a nice guy, he called her from my phone. About 2 weeks later, I received a box for her from UPS, containing 100 autographed copies of his cd, a cardboard cutout of him, and 50 posters all autographed.

    BEING THE OPPONENTS FRIEND/FOE:
I worked with Keith Mcknight, a Heavyweight from Tennessee on and off for numerous years. I received a phone call one day asking if I would like to work in the corner of Obed Sullivan for a USA Tuesday Night Fights show. I agreed, and lo-and-behold the opponent for Sullivan was Keith McKnight.

I took an old photo of Obed & my brother with me & had Obed autograph it.

I worked a couple fights with Robert Allen & one day I got an email asking if I'd work for a journeyman named Moses Martinez in GA. Once again I agreed, and once again i stood opposite of a fighter I previously worked with---Robert Allen.

    BIGGEST MOMENT OF MY CAREER:

Working with KINGPIN, i was very fortunate to see the Vitali fight in person. Being in the presence of 2 damn great heavyweights (Vlad & Vitali) and just the whole K2 Experience was a sight to behold. K2 was Top Notch from top to bottom.

    BEST TRASH TALK:
Tyson Fury had 1of the funniest smack talk I have ever heard.
When a female report was interviewing KINGPIN, he (KJ) mentioned something about going out to dinner with her. She politely declined & KJ jokingly said something to the effect of "its ok, Ima not into hookers"...and Tyson Fury replied, "Pathetic, You couldnt get laid by a hooker"...???

    ALMOST HAD TO FIGHT:
When KINGPIN fought in Georgia against Harold Sconiers, the original opponent Stacey Frazier failed his physical. With only 2 days before fight day, and no opponent named, I jokingly said Id step in and fight. I passed the physical & was listed as possible opponent #1A if Sconiers turned down the contract.

THE DAY IRON MIKE TRIED TO KILL ME:
I worked the corner for Keith McKnight on the Tyson-Etienne undercard. After the weigh in. I was talking to Tyson & mentioned that he couldnt knock me out (Of course I was joking, Id bleed all over him if he hit me). But he jokingly agreed to play slap me. My jaw hurt for over 2 weeks after being slapped by him.

    CHOKING NELLY:
On the Showtime card, KINGPIN vs. Damian Wills, rapper Nelly was in attendance. After the fight he came rushing up to our corner & tried to talk to KJ, I had no idea who he was, I tried to tell him he wasnt allowed & he forced by me, so I choked him. After we got separated, the PA announced that Nelly was in the audience. came to find out, Nelly & KJ are real good friends.

    Flip Tha Script

My best friend Tim (a thuggish looking black man, who literally is Jeopardy fricking smart) and I debate controversial topics...with a twist....we literally flip tha script halfway through and argue the other side...he takes the pro side, I take con...then we alternate and he takes the con I get pro view....that way the viewers get the black and white argument from both angles.

As for your list, sure you can have your own personal list. But if you're going to leave Sweet Pea off it because you don't enjoy watching him then don't call it list of the greatest boxers ever... call it a list of your favorite boxers who are arguably ATGs. Two rather different things.

As for my list and others like it. No... your assessment is completely inaccurate. There is AMPLE footage of most of the fighters that make the ATG lists that you seem to consider pretentious. If you can't find enough on youtube to form your own opinion then remember there was footage before youtube and not all of it has been uploaded there! Go to your local library if you live in a major city!!! There is more footage of Henry Armstrong at the Los Angeles Public Library than there is on youtube by a factor of 10 and the quality is significantly better too!!! When it comes to Charles and Moore the footage of those 2 is so readily availably at this point that no trip should be necessary... If you don't like what you see with those two then I have no idea what to tell you :conf

But yes, there are some fighters in my top 25 who I have not seen as much of as I would like. Both my grandparents boxed in the British army and were diehard fanatics till the day the died. My father boxed for Cambridge and is following the sport like a maniac at the ripe old age of 78. My whole life I have been surrounded by debate about where these men fall in the history of the sport. That is why I have read every scr*p of information concerning the much heralded boxing greats that I could get my hands on for the last 30 years - to try and get to the bottom of which of them I ought to hold in the highest esteem. All so that I could have an opinion worth sharing when I sat down at dinner. If you don't have the same interest in the history of the sport then that's your prerogative but don't try to debase my opinions because of it. I have made the effort to inform my own take, so I would appreciate you not insinuating that I am merely guessing and basing my list of what I think might sound good.

    :lol::lol::lol:

F*cking great stuff, mate. I don't know who Nelly is either but if he's a famous rapper I 'm sure he wasn't happy about being choked by you, I hope you're a big lad.

What did Keith say when he found out you were in Sullivan's corner? Did he have a laugh about it? I'd imagine he must understand it's a business and these crazy things happen.

And what in the bloody hell would you have done if you'd actually had to take that fight??? Were you remotely in fighting shape at the time?

Separate question besides the stories, did you ever box professionally yourself?
