I hope ya felt the same way about pacquiao and Canelo having his own weight class at 155 Dude fought the best of the best in this era gave us many exciting fights and now he is at the tail end of his career making more money than most boxers and is calling his own shots, he earned it
I'm a Cotto fan, but he's holding up progress and the natural evolution of the division, period. I've no problem with him picking and choosing opponents, however he should relinquish the title.
But why the common notion that he doesnt want to fight ggg? Let it build up a bit it took may pac 5 years, he has a way bigger pay day coming at the end of this yr vs canelo then if he doesnt fight ggg after then OK drop the title The hate is so real right now
Unless its Tyson, boxers arent scared to fight anyone its what they live for! there is a business side to this sport as well
its like people expect cotto to make decisions based on whats best for ggg.... cotto got the martinez fight...is he supposed to feel bad cuz ggg couldnt? he won so now hes doing whats best for him....and ive long echoed the same sentiment the op has...hes earned it...i have no problem with him holding that belt right now....if after geale he holds it without fighting ggg, floyd, or canelo...then ya ill have an issue with it and call for him to drop it....but not right now....cotto is doing whats best for himself...not ggg and his fanboys....they want cotto to curtail to a 33 year old without a signature win...and they want cotto to be that signature win...which is sad
If he were fighting Canelo this month instead of Geale, I think a lot of the Golovkin noise would have been muffled. No one (other than Golovkin fanatics) thinks career wise it would've been smarter to fight Golovkin than Canelo. However, this is not the case. He is fighting a guy Golovkin easily dispatched. A guy that isn't even top 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 in his respective division. Canelo is # 1 in his division. A champion a division above fighting the # 1 guy from the division below is perfectly acceptable. What Cotto is doing just isnt. There isn't any other way to spin it.
if he fights canelo like planned, i dont see a problem. yeah i wanna see ggg versus cotto but miguel isnt the same fighter any more. wishful thinking. let him fight canelo whatever happens after that so be it
160 division sucks how is geale not top 5? Geale is ggg best fighter on his resume, he had a year layoff he knows hes not a real middleweight and a megafight with canelo looms for this year so whats the issue with getting some rounds in pr weekend and see how he fairs with a LEGIT MIDDLEWEIGHT who was a world champion and no injuries...after saturday if cotto wins he will have beaten sergio and geale at 160 while ggg is beating tomato cans (other than geale) Has there ever even been a 5'7 middleweight with arms as short as cotto? People should admire what hes doing a bit
Cotto earned his spot and won his title winning a fight very few gave him a chance in. He certainly didn't become a big name begging for paydays against fighters two weight divisions below him while devouring bums as a 200/1 favorite. He went in there and took serious risks fighting the fights fans demanded him to. He has every right to pick his fights willingly for a big payday at the end of his career.
Other than your incessant shots taken at GGG for wanting to get ANY big name in the ring with him from 154-168, I agree with your post. Cotto always wanted to fight the best and he usually won. He does deserve the right to call the shots as he nears retirement but holding the middleweight title hostage for any longer is not right and he should know that.
