How is it his award to lose if he never beat a truly special and great fighter in their prime?

This is such a flawed way of thinking. Who was there for him to fight during the prime of his own career? remember now, he was truly in his prime between 2001-2005. By the time he became a PPV star, he was already in his 30's and campaigning in his 4th and 5th weight classes.

So who were these ATG prime fighters he would've had the opportunity to fight in the early to mid 2000's? Last time I checked, the only ATG fighters that have been campaigning since Pea Whitaker and Chavez sr hung their gloves up are Manny, Floyd, Roy Jones and Hopkins. He obviously couldn't have fought Jones jr or Hopkins at any point of his career.

Barrera and Marquez were prime ATGS that Manny beat.

Cotto and Ledwaba were very good fighters that Manny beat.

Define "great". JLC is a HOFer, and a great fighter in my book. You could make the case for Juan Manuel Marquez as well....And we'll see with Canelo (although i think he's more "very good" than "great)

@ tinman^^What exactly is your interpretation of the term ATG? Personally, i think an ATG is someone I categorize as being a top 50 fighter of all time. Barrera was a great fighter and a first ballot HOF'er no doubt, but ATG? I don't know about all that. I'm pretty sure I can mention a minimum of 50 fighters that had superior careers to MAB.

Given the long history of boxing I always said ATG is top 100.

Again if. burnt out MAB at 29 with 60+ fights, been in multiples of wars is prime, then Vargas was prime at 29 fighting mayorga? Right?? WRONG anyone who followed vargas'career back then knew he was a shot past prime 29... tito took his Prime at 22 years old...

Cotto was busted up by wraps and forced to lose 2 pounds less then the limit and arguably lost to clottey... the cheato fight took alot out o. Cotto, it was very obvious in that fight....

Ledwaba....well like i said he was an unknown getting beat by an unknown...

And Jmm 1??? Very arguable Jmm beat him 3 out of 4.... i wouldnt keep bringing up the Jmm fight...:deal

The source of Manny's greatness. I posted this video for the teenagers and new comers to boxing on this board.

Listen to the glowing admiration the commentators have for Pacquiao and Barrera.

I remember seeing this live as an 11 year old kid. My dad was shocked and speechless.

how can floyd be atg if he doesn't play on even playing field, handicaps his opponents, sucker punches for a ko win, ducks his division when it was hot and unretires when they destroyed each other, most wins were on safety first style, and waited for pac after ko6 before fighting him with lots of videos proving his fear and health comes first, score points only to win, and fights only in his turf? just plenty of evidence of fear to lose and get hurt for a supposed boxing atg. he has the record for getting a lot of money from the sport but not giving back the entertainment that the fans deserve....

Their resumes are very different but I still believe without the head to head ofc they are even and arguments are valid for both being weaker or stronger than the other.

Deontay Wilder had a better 24 hour stretch of his career when he beat Stiverne than Muhammad Ali had that one 24 hour stretch of his career when he didn't fight anyone.

    Who cares?

We all have our own opinions on everything anyway. We all put different values in different aspects of ****yzing a career and boxing resume... I've always felt Mayweather had the better 00-09 than Pacquiao to begin with. So no need for claims of revisionist history. Floyd without question had the much better 90-99 decade and without question will have the much more superior 10-19 decade than Pacquiao will (although I suppose anything is possible; he'd have to get to work quick and kick mighty ass along with Floyd sucking ass in order to close that sizable gap).
