yeah Shavers got way too much publicity because of Ali saying that, YES Shavers hit really hard but was it the hardest of all time? I don't think so. He hammered Ali pretty damn hard out of the blue that's for sure.

It was the hardest of all time because his glove imploded. The only guy that made Ali go back after landing a punch. Ali knew he never felt punching power like that and he faced some of biggest hitters in the history of the sport. Liston, Williams, Foreman, Fraizer, Patterson, etc.

 

you can only really take notice of what fighters say about opponents as to who hits the hardest in their era , how can somebody watching on TV know more than the people that actually take the punches ???
