Is the Heavyweight Division getting better?

Is the Heavyweight Division getting better than recent years? There's Anthony Joshua coming up the ranks, Wilders WBC Champ, Wladimir's still going strong as ever, and Fury in the mix too. Plus there's other's about like Povetkin.

Look back at ESB history, people always were saying "Oh look now we got interesting contenders, NOW its looking up". And then all these guys were beaten into submissions by the K brothers, losing their souls, toes, eyes, retinas, knees and lust for life.

Brock, Solis, Pulev, Povetkin, Haye were all touted as contenders who would be able to mix it up -- and once they tasted the first punch they decided they want out instead.

 

Yes. More depth. But there is a clear number one and that is Wladimir Klitschko.

Once he retires, the titles are going to be passed around like a blunt at a rasta party and people will yearn for a clear number one again.

 

Like Madbállster says, we've seen many ot\f these threads in the last couple of years. But when the mentioned guys failed, they were put in the bums bin afterwards.

 

Exactly. And the thing is this: IMO guys like Haye/Povetkin would have been able to win an ABC belt in the 80s or 90s or early 2000s and hold on to them for a few defenses and actually have credibility as a HW. But Wlad's dominance denigrates them to mere contenders.

 

Looks so, Joshua and Parker look the pick of the prospects and there are some good contenders about now but I would like to see a few more prospects coming up through the ranks though otherwise we could see another Klitschko type domination from someone.

 

more competetive, for sure, but better? how many HW's on Wlad's level do you see on the horizon?

None. Thats why its getting better.

2004-2012 was the worst HW Era known to man.

So bad that many guys from low down as far as Middle weight moved there to have success and pick up titles.

 

I certainly wouldn't but it doesn't really matter and it wasn't my point, in years time you are likely to see a domination again from one of these guys or Fury or Wilder, if there aren't any more top prospects coming through.

 

I agree with this. It may become more competetive, but the talent still lacks until proven otherwise.
