my introduction to classic boxing was in about 2008 when after watching raging bull i went on youtube to watch them for real, from then till a few months before i registered here all i did was watch fights, which isn't perfect as there is very little context to the fights. since then i have built a career around sports so as well as more information i should have much better annalytical skills, both of fighters and of my own abilities.

one of my first deep interests was pep vs saddler, i would have pep easily top 10 and saddler easily top 20 all time, now i'd be a bit harder on both men and, while i might still be able to justify said rankings i can see both's flaws more clearly.

i wasn't that into hw's before joining this forum, and when i did was probably the height of the anti dempsey posting, i still see he had a lot of flaws but i think a lot more of him now than i did.

archie moore has gone up in my estimation every time i watch him or learn something new.

the same thing happened with barney ross, i still put him top 10 but am not quite as high on him as i was a year back.

how have your views/ratings changed over time and why?

I think they're all scum. Worthless bums.
I didn't always feel like that.

I know there are still good fighters out there, but when I watch boxers such as Mayweather and Wlad, I wonder what's the point of it.

Boxing at it's roots, like all sports, is entertainment, and I just find myself being less and less entertained these days than I was in say the 80's or even 90's.

Fitz used to be like God to me.

Now I'm not sure he has anything more than a punchers chance against the last 25 LHW champs.

I'm in the same place. Most of the fights I watch these days are from that era.

Unforgiven, do you truly feel this way or was the comment in jest?
If true, what makes you say this? Not being sarcastic - legitimately curious about thoughts.

Miguel Cotto. I thought he was very good. He might have been but now he is a complete fraud. It is more of a change in him that triggered a change in my view of him so maybe it is not a good example to what the TS meant.

    Roy Jones.
Going by youtube and shallow boxrec use I thought he was 1 of z gr8s.
2day I know that he was always a fraud. A bigger fraud than Miguel Cotto whom was not always a fraud. Jones has less meaningful wins than Cotto has and took less risky fights.
If Cotto is a prima dona, Jones is the queen of them all.

My opinion of Mayweather has changed quite a bit since the Pacman fight, I always knew he was a talented fighter but I didn't like the way he tried to control every aspect of a fight. Doesn't matter though because he was the superior fighter, I really thought Manny would give him hell.

Of course. If opinions don't change over time you're not learning anything. At one time I thought marciano was nothing special. Now I clearly see he was a solid ATG. At one time I did not appreciate the brilliance of Ali. Now I rate him strongly as the best hwt of all time. Louis has always remained high on my list and my opinion of him has grown over the years not diminished. I appreciate Holmes less, Lewis more as well as Tyson. Many other examples.

NOt sure if you are serious or i am thinking of the wrong fitz or something.

But i do believe that your are the only person i have ever met or known, whose opinion of Fitz has gone down, after they learned more about his career :huh

    I have to agree.

Fitz is the outstanding example, of a fighter who knocks researchers sideways, when they get into the detail of his career.

If you overrated him previously, then you must be Nat Fleischer!

Ehh, realized there's a lot more control and "riggedness" in it than previously thought. It's becoming too much about money, business, and self promoting and less about the actual fight and the entertainment factor of it. That was saddening. Also found out that most of the time I always end up disappointed in one way or another. Then again, that seems to be the circumstance for most sports I'm into...😐

I must say, GGG hasn't disappointed me yet. That's a breath of fresh air and probably why I'm drawn to him so much. Hope it continues.
