From Jeffries and Johnson. Robinson and Lamotta. Ali and Duran. Hagler and Leonard. To Pacquiao and Morales and Barrera. Is Pacquiao the last of an era? The last of the culture? Is he the Luke Skywalker of boxing? I knew somebody who lived in the Philippines from 2003-2008 and Pacquiao was the biggest star in the country. The most famous Filipino in the country and the most adored person in the country. After he defeated Barrera he became a national hero and eventually an international icon who was beloved. Will anybody ever go out there again and destroy and defeat incredible fighters and capture the masses of his country and even the world? I think this might be it for boxing. I don't think we'll see another icon of boxing again with the way the sport is.
He's arguably the #2 p4p. I would say #1 of the era. That's not the point of the thread. Is Pacquiao the last national hero of boxing? The last beloved international icon of boxing? The last to take on prime ATG's and capture the masses of boxing? I think he is.
He's #3 p4p, #2 ATG ranked of this era. That's a fact and every boxing aficionado will realize it as such. Many of them already do. They ranked May as the #12 fighter post WW2 and that's b4 the Canelo win!!! :deal
They're both the best of this era, floyd is better after one fight, in another fight, Pac has the ability to give Mayweather trouble, just as Mayweather could dismantle him again. No point trying to dismiss either of them or you just go in circles. It's clear Pacman transcends the sport though, Mayweather doesn't really have much allure outside of boxing.
Floyd isn't an icon or national hero. Here in America (I'm American) he has a negative reputation. We don't want to claim him. We don't heap adulation on him. We don't like him.
I'm from America. You must be from the south. I'm from the Northeast in a mostly white area and it is about even. Nobody cares about Floyd's reputation, some like him some dont. Most don't know boxing. Stop acting like your trailer park is a nice model of the whole country
