We all saw Danni Geales quit in the 4th against Cotto... I've seen fighters take a lot more punishment and keep going on. This was Geales second time in last 3 fights that he quit.

When is it ok to quit? and if you do, does that mean you should stop fighting forever?

These guys have families outside of boxing. If he really felt like he could no longer continue on (He was going to be permanently injured or that he didn't have a prayer), it's completely fine.

Why do you talk about guys like Geale/Dawson/Hamer but never bring up guys like Arguello who blatantly quit against Pryor in the 2nd fight?

He even said in the post fight press conference

"I have a family, I could have continued, I was not hurt" and was crying. :think:mad:

Or... they simply knew that they had no chance and they didn't want to take punishment that could turn them into a vegetable? :think

  4. 48 men have died due to boxing injures in the ring. You gotta know when to throw in the towel. Most of you guys here have never even had a good fist fight in your backyard let alone box for a living. Calling a guy a coward for not getting his brain damaged is stupid. None of you will help his family or pick him up out of a wheel chair so enjoy the entertainment. This ain't Roman Gladiator death fights, cuzz.

This. It wasn't a 4round club fight. This was a world title fight.

I don't to ever see Geales again.

When they've had enough. If even 1/10th of the keyboard warrior clowns on this board had ever even laced up a pair of gloves it would look a whole lot different.

Strangely, Geale had 2 very legit excuses

GGG - hit GGG with a flush shot, in the same motion got KTFO. you now know you cant even hurt this guy, and he can take your head off

Cotto - killed Geale on the scales before the fight. not surprised he felt he couldnt go on

Live and fight another day, not take unnecessary punishment and risk death.

They know their stock is going down (losing money) on a quit, and yet they still chose to do so, that should tell you something.

Whenever they say so, they know the repercussions of quitting, their stock goes down, so if they chose to quit it must've been for a good reason. Think of it this way, they chose professional prize fighting as a profession, that's more heart than most people show, so when they quit it's probably because they are sizably outclassed and out gunned, and quit for a good reason. I think fighters quitting has likely saved our beloved sport from extinction.

Geales should have his purse withheld. He clearly dogged it and defrauded the paying fans $$$$$$. If ya don't want to be a fighter then fine but don't accept money to fight then.
