easily Hopkins, why is this question being asked.

Hopkins post 40 career beats calzaghes whole career, and when you can pick someones 40+ career over someones entire resume that's pretty substantial a difference in the 2 fighters being compared. Consider how weak a champion you must be if you are eclipsed by the antics of post 40 hearns or duran.

the difference between backdoor hofer and a real atg.

You would have to go with Hopkins. Calzaghe had a great career and his unblemished record has to count for something, but when you look at what Bernard did over such a long career and over many weight divisions it really is no contest.
Hopkins resume is also far superior to Calzaghe.
Also, holding a legitimate world title at the age of 49 is one hell of a feet and will take some beating.

    Calzaghe

Hopkins gets alot of credit for what he has done in his career and will will be highly thought of for his longevity.
Many will point to top fighters Hopkins beat in Tito or De La Hoya, but they were not in my opinion top MWs and not as good as Hopkins wins over a fighter like K Holmes at MW. Hopkins was naturally the bigger man.
Hopkins in my opinion has not beaten anyone as good as Eubank or prime undefeated Kessler, whilst Calzaghe has beaten both, and has the win over Hopkins.
Thats 3 wins of Calzaghes, that I rate above what I would class as Hopkins best win.

Clearly for Calzaghe with 3 greater wins than any of Hopkins

Intriguing how the only legit badass joe even fought and beat in their respective prime was bhop and it was a close competitive bout with joe edging it. Still you have to respect what joe did and maintained for so many years....some folks find great sucess with complacency....joe fits that to a T. I give career accomplishment edge to hops.

This. I like Calzaghe more as well but BHOP definitely ranks higher.

The Kessler win was a good win. For both of them.

Classic example of longevity outweighing a better h2h ability, even when the guy with the inferior resume beat the guy with the better resume. Would have to say Hopkins is better ATG ... and I don't even like him. Hopkins is like an era on his own.

You honestly believe Calzaghe vs a prime Hopkins that actually could match his own output would have a hope in hell?

Prime Hopkins would box Calzaghe's head off and make him look silly. There is a reason why Joe stuck to defending his WBO strap against sub par opponents for 10 years.
