Given that the fight took place in Philadelphia, I cited several local Philadelphia newspapers, and offered the perspectives of writers who actually were present at the fight, not relying on some dispatch: Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Evening Bulletin, Philadelphia Public Ledger, Philadelphia Press, Philadelphia Record, and the writers from the New York World and New York Journal, both of whom were present. Black periodicals said that Tad Dorgan of the Journal was one of the fairest of the white writers in terms of not allowing race prejudice to color his writing and opinions. I offer enough opinions that readers should be able to get a flavor for the fight, and get a sense of the good and bad points of both of their relative performances. Ultimately, the reader can draw his or her own conclusions.

Now some quick questions which I think you will either avoid or attempt to blur.

1 ) Isn't a photo where men are in bare feet with their legs locked next to each other a good primary source for comparing height?

2 ) Who do you think looks taller and had longer arms in the photo?

If Choysnki was 5'11", then Johnson was a shade shorter.

1 ) A clear photo like this does not lie and is a very good indication of height between the two.

2 ) You can't see very well. Choysnki is slightly taller with longer arms

That's cool. My point is no less than three sources I can find said O'Brien was the better. I was just wondering if any source you put in the book had O'Brien winning. Based on your reply I'll assume yes.

    The Nevada State Journal
"Regardless of his long absence from the ring,Jeffries would have been beaten by Johnson when he was at his prime.in the opinion of men who saw yesterday's battle.Impregnable and invincible to all the other heavyweights,Jeffries would have been as easy prey to the coloured champion seven years ago as he was yesterday".

    William Muldoon
"I believe he would have whipped Jeffries at any time during his professional career".
    Billy Delaney
Said he always knew Johnson would win.
"I knew that Jeffries was afraid of him and I knew that would cause his defeat".
    Tommy Burns
Thought that the present Johnson might have beaten Jeff even at his best.
    Georg Harting . The timekeeper
" I may be mistaken but I think that the Johnson of today could beat Jeff the best day he ever saw"

    Jack Welch Referee
Thought Johnson would have beat any version of Jeffries. Enough for you?

re: the photo....its not a good indication...you say you know about photography. .but give me a couple of days and I'll prove it (tied up working at moment).....a good indication would be side to side...not one further away....I know you wont agree but allow me a couple of days and I'll create an example here

Please take your time. To clarify your positon you agree that Choynski looks a little taller and has longer reach in the photo as presented, correct?

Johnson has broader shoulders, but Choynski has the longer arms, and a longer neck.

They are standing maybe 3" away from each other, in bare feet with legs locked.

ok...maybe i've turned completely stupid even by my own low standards :).....but lets look at this 3" you quote....in the photo johnson stands behind choynski, his toes wouldnt be touching choynskis heels....so, therefore, if i am thinking straight, you are saying choynski's feet are less than 3" inches long :think

and...to reply to - "To clarify your positon you agree that Choynski looks a little taller and has longer reach in the photo as presented, correct?".....my answer is no.

you may well be right for all i know in your conclusion, you may have the heights correct.....but my point is that the way you have reached your conclusion is wrong to me, just in my humble opinion....so therefore i can't agree with you.

    Dougal Mendoza:lol::D:rofl

    First he says they are:

"I know something about photography. What is he, 6 inches away? I'd say so. Look at the distance between their feet".

    Now he says:

"They are standing maybe 3" away from each other, in bare feet with legs locked"

What will it be tomorrow, 1.5"away from each other?
F*ck me there are some nutters about!:patsch
