I just don't see it. I've really tried to give Calzaghe a chance, but it's just not there for me. He doesn't have great technique, he has close to no power, his chin isn't NEARLY what his fans would have you believe.

Look at a guy like Lomachenko. One fight into his pro career and he says "win, lose, or draw, bring me the best and I will fight them". He is DARING to be great. Did Calzaghe ever DARE to do anything? He stayed in the UK for the MAJORITY of his career with a belt that no one recognized as legit at the time. Where is the greatness?

I don't see anything great h2h. Not one moment has been remotely impressive. He would have a 20% KO ratio if there were no british stoppages.

I guess when there's no one else around to fill the history books with, Joe Calzaghe stops looking so bland.

He could have been greater, no one disputes that

But he's racked up good-great victories against a very very prime Kessler, a very very very good Hopkins, Veit, a very very good Lacy who everyone thought would dismantle Calzaghe (Someone whom the public deemed as the next Tyson :patsch) among others.

He has a very crowd pleasing styles and throws 1000+ punches on any given night, it's spectacular to watch.

He gets up from the floor each and everytime and wins, that's something to be respected.

He's probably a top 100 ATG after all things are considered.

It's just that some extremely ridiculous Pro-Calzaghe fans can really go too over the top. It gets annoying.

Not sure how it's polluting your thread. I've stated fair points.

Ah, this thread is troll to begin with. You just want people to agree with you and call him an overrated protected hypejob. :patsch

    Gotcha.

His opinion was immediately deemed invalid for the rest of time when he failed to see greatness in super Joe.

    Yes.

I think he had a good CHIN, good SPEED, EXCELLENT work rate, and had good attributes all around.

I think his father wasn't maybe the best trainer ever, and I also think that maybe he didn't have management that did his legacy any favors.

But even basing him off of what he did, he is still a great fighter...

It will always come into question how great he "really" was...

This will happen to FMJ as well, people seem to want to test something until it finally breaks down. But sometimes you just have to use your boxing knowledge and judge from what you see. It's not their fault that someone didn't finally crack them.

I saw a great fighter in JC.

Just about. Maybe "special" is a better word.

Lol MVC! posted a quality post & look at how your answer, after that people wonder why everyone's trolling !

    @subject of the thread:
He's good, but not top 25 or something like most of his fans think, he had good wins ( some over past prime opponents ), but still good wins. Bottom 100 because he's undefeated & had fan friendly style / amazing punch output and always got up.

Forget stoppages, it was all about slappages for Calzaghe. A barrage of slaps with speed from angles not giving his opponent any moment to even sniff requires some level of greatness.

If we are going to say his KO rate would've been 20% but for British stoppages, we have to be fair and say it actually would've been much higher but for the hand issues.

dude, calzaghe should never be mentioned in the same post as a warrior like lomachenko. he is no cowardzaghe.

that's said, two great things joe had were stamina and protective management. Actually three great things, an unwavering support from hardcore fans who swallowed up subnational defence after subnational defence for a decade, and even now many of them haven't cottoned on that they were robbed by joe. That's a truly great.

a good chin helped him survive a lot of fights he would have lost, that's and his referee in Cardiff of course. but not a great chin at all.

If he'd have gone to the US earlier, his resume would have looked better (Johnson, Tarver, younger Hopkins)
