All this interim shyte needs s****ped. The champion either fights or is stripped if not defended every 6 months injury or no injury. In the case of injury the previous Champ gets first crack when fit.
Apples and oranges. Your comparing 1 organisation to the whole sport of boxing. There are other champs in mma not fighting in the ufc.
Internet warriors are also what's wrong with boxing... Quigg, Matthews and Haskins aren't champs though. Although Quigg is arguable. The WBA do in theory have two world champs so if he is one he would be a lesser one than the other champs surely? And that's not to knock a professional athlete who fights for a living. It's just facts. Some people are way too defensive of things on here. Saying Quigg, Matthews and Haskins aren't World Champions is the same as saying they aren't Commonwealth champions. They simple aren't, no slight on their ability intended.
but what does it really matter ?straight after a fellas moment of glory just saying 'well you are not a proper world champ'!! if there was 1 belt per division there would be fighters with zero hope....i have never enjoyed boxing more than now and UK boxing is thriving..we are a small Isle with loads of top quality 'champs'...i could not care less if Rigo is the REAL champ or GGG or Floyd etc..we all know who the best fighters are but lets give the lesser names a bit of glory ,they deserve it ffs
Oh no I get you mate, and I support those sentiments. It's like Gary Sykes, he's not a world champ, and I'd bet never will be. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy his fights, I don't feel he's achieved a hell of a lot in his career, and I don't think he has an important part to play in British boxing. Likewise with the belts. I love a good unification, the whole build up, the whole debate, that's boxing at it's best for me. The only thing that really chesses me off is the lack of them, but hey that's business.
yeah the politics stink but you could imagine how hard it would be getting a title fight with only 1 belt?look at floyd now,its a lottery who fights him... Im enjoying UK fighters having world belts even if they are only on the edges of true world class... its way too easy being a troll slagging off lads who work so hard for maybe 30 minutes of glory
That is why British and European level exists. Four major bodies having champions at any weight level is more than enough. Won't be too long before we see a bronze world championship fight between the next 2 in the pecking order etc. People are entitled to opinions but regardless of opinion, well done Haskins tonight on a very good win.
Lee Haskins fought excellently tonight and a lot of people on forums were picking Iwasa to win so he did extremely well to get the belt. It was a good fight and, no, he isn't the outright champion but an interim title at the very least guarantees him first crack at Caballero provided he recovers from his injury in time. The interim title seems to be a necessary evil in boxing these days with organisations seemingly unwilling to strip fighters if they can't or won't defend within the mandated time-frame...
That is the issue that needs resolved - at least one defence every 6 months or be stripped. The contrasting treatment dished out to Vitali Klitschko and Jamie McDonnell clearly illustrates the current farcical application of rules.
There was the situation with Eubank Jnr getting a "title shot" aagainst Chudinov which was for the 3rd belt down. I think the major problem is the WBA "regular" belt whichTV pundits even cconsider a legitimate title when it is meaningless. The WBO stripped Kameda when he fought McDonnel because he had the bogus belt. This is what all the organisations should dol as well boycotting the WBA until they remove the belt from use.
lee Haskins is more of a champion than any of the fighters with regular belts. fact is he should be the IBF world champion Caballero should be striped and given first rights to fight Haskins
Out of the four main sanctioning bodies it's the WBA which I find most bamboozling. To me it seems weird that you can have three belt holders in super, regular and interim at one weight division with none of them apparently mandatory or expected to fight each other. Also I've noticed Richar Abril is the lightweight champion in recess - does this mean the WBA could have four variations/ versions of their title at lightweight? The IBF (to an extent anyway) do seem to promote interim champions, make champions fight their mandatory challengers, strip champions for failing to defend etc. I would be surprised if Lee Haskins isn't either promoted to full champion or faces Randy Caballero in the next 6 months.
