Geale is a quitter and a coward. Katsidis is a true warrior.

Mostly in agreement and happy to see Jack Carroll recognized :good

But Hussien Hussien and 'Aussie' Joe Bugner in ahead of the likes of Les Darcy, Barry Michael and Paul Ferreri in particular, and Lester Ellis and Rocky Matiolli?

Bugner is usually claimed by UK fans and unless I'm mistaken identifies as British.

Joe Bugner was born in Hungary and fought out of England. His first fight as an 'Australian' was in 1986 at the age of 36 :yikes

Robbie Peden is a great get and somebody me and many others have oversighted on.

Hussien lost all 3 of the bouts you mentioned above.

Arce stopped him both times. The second time inside 2 rounds.

Without detracting too much from Hussien, who carved out a handy career, who did he beat of any note?

What you fail to recognise as a non-Australian is Mattioli was only about the 4th Australian to win a genuine world title. In 1977, when Mattioli won his title, Australia had a population of about 14 million people.

When Mattioli won the WBC title it was one of only two world titles per weight division. The WBA being the other (yes the IBF started about then but it was completely unrecognised).

You seem intent on comparing Mattioli to K9 Bundrage for some reason. Stating K9 "isn't on anybody's top 15 Americans list".

Well fancy that! K9 is from a country of population near enough to 300 million people who have produced probably 200 times (conservatively) as many world champions as Australia have.

Mattioli won his world title in an era where there were 2 world titles per division. K9 won his 'world' title in an era of alphabet titles where there are nearly as many titles as fighters.

All fair enough but i already went over all three guys he beat in world title fights. They weren't exactly murderers' row, even for it having been a less diluted era..

Like I said, handy career, but IMO it doesn't put him ahead of our elite who did more.

But these top 10, top 20 comparisons amount to matters of opinion and I respect yours. Though in this case we are in disagreement :good

Hussy wasn't even the best in his family, was he? Isn't Skinny generally considered better?

Speaking of Nedal, he was scheduled once to fight Katsidis. Would've been a FOTY candidate.

I have read all the p4p lists and possibly the best australian boxer of all time is not mentioned. Young Griffo. There is no footage of him but if you talk to the old timers he was the man. One of the greatest defensive wizzards in the history of the sport.
