I wonder if the reason why BJS turned the fight down the fight links into all this. to sum it up: there was only 1 purse bid made for this fight, which was only $102,000 for a world title fight by Golden Boy!! The fight will be infront of a packed Bell Centre in Canada and is the main event N'Dam was IBF #1 and Lemieux was lucky to get the fight after others turned it down. so N'Dam will likely get a gross of $51,000 and Lemieux around $1,000,000
it definitely is a farcial situation, but as I see it N'Dam did this to himself. if you were Golden Boy, and knew about the situation, wouldn't you take 2 envelopes to the bidding yourself? One with the minimum, and one serious offer. they saw this coming and took advantage of this, by almost leaving the opposite fighter purseless and taking well care of their own fighter whose interests actually are their concern, in this case Lemmy. Situations like this shouldn't occur, but it's the way the whole thing is constructed that it's possible. And there have been worse cases in wich both fighters got the short stick because both their promoters didn't care about them.
N'Dam and Gary Hyde rejected a much higher offer before purse bids and then didn't even bother to bid on the fight. If you sign with a complete amateur of a manager this is what happens. He rejected $300,000 for the fight saying he'd have to pay 30% to his promoter, 10% to his manager, 10% to his trainer and 30% taxes. Well don't sign off on such ridiculous % deals and you won't have to. They're saying "everything is in Lemieux favour" obviously. His promoter won the bids, so they'll favour him where they can. Doesn't he understand boxing? N'Dam played a game of purse bids and lost, simple as that. It isn't a farce.
Why was there only 1 bid though. And so low. For a world title fight. And it basically worked out the same sort of money either way For him. And he is technically the 'champion' hope he wins, good fighter. And why didn't golden boy give him the Quillin rematch? all adds up to something quite odd.
He was given step aside money to forego the rematch and the reason there was only one bid is because obviously his promoter didn't see any scope to make money. Golden Boy did, so they knew this and low balled the offer. Which is exactly what they should be doing as a company trying to make a profit. If as a fighter/manager you're not happy with the money your fighter will be making, withdraw from the fight.
Lemieux is the draw no one is paying to watch N'Dam. Should of took the 300k offer especially if his side were not going to submit a bid hence the low ball purse bid figure of $102k. N'Dam's team rolled the dice and got badly burn't.If he had of pulled out the locals would still flock to see Lemieux v anyone frankly.
The only "farce" here is the bogus "world title" label. this is purely a fight between contenders - and it should be a good one.
Why is it 'bogus'? It's for the IBF Middleweight title. Same title as Selby, Frampton, Brook, DeGale..
Replace these 4 names with Lomachenko, Rigondeaux, Mayweather and Ward. There is only one world and these are the proven boxers in their divisions, the 4 you mention are contenders, despite the alphabet letters. How can followers regard the winner of this highly attractive bout as the world's best middleweight with Golovkin prowling about? Let's not forget that both the WBO and IBF were virtually asking for volunteers to compete for their vacant belts, so desperate were they to fill the vacancies to have the sanctioning fees flowing in. Treat the Lemieux fight for what it really is, a good competitive action fight.
