Is Anderson Silva overrated?

Yes. Great fighter, but some of his 'defences' were utterly meaningless.

He has had some amazing finishes/performances, though.

 

Bonnar and Irvin were lt heavyweight non title fights.but I remember thinking Bonnar had no chance of lasting the first round.he is the most insignificant big name in ufc history.never top 10 in his division and win over jardine was dubious.

 

Still pointless fights, though. Gimme fights at their finest! Just exhibition/glorified sparring matches to enhance Silva's legacy as the greatest.

Considering how deep LHW was at that time he could have at least fought Chuck or Rampage.

 

Silva was an "8" in a sea of "4's" for fighters.

He was a dominate champion for his time, but he was in a very weak division while he did it.

LOL he was clowning because of how little he thought of Weidman. He was more interested in talking about fighting faded Roy Jones in boxing ring than Weidman in the octagon at the time. He was convinced Weidman didnt belong in the octagon with him. Post fight after losing his title he had no interest in Weidman. He had to be goaded into the rematch by Zuffa so Zuffa could capitilize on what they potentially saw as the biggest rematch in history.
Silva came back to fight Diaz loaded up on PEDs which should tell you he knew his body was no longer up to par.

 

True, but false about the Peds. His leg was never going to be fine without some kind of steroid with his recovery.

 

I was a big Silva fan, but, I am starting to feel that he was a little over rated. His arrogance, and personality in my opinion stopped him from being the killer he should have been, and could have been. He never seemed to work his wrestling like he should have. That's arrogance. When he came against real contenders with good wrestling, his ass was on the canvas each of those matches. Also, he often played around. An all business Silva, every night out in the UFC, would never have lost to Weidman, and none of his fights would have went the distance. He disgusted me some matches with his playing around, and taunting, which is really a form of disrespect to his opponent. He then did it a bit to much, and Weidman crunched him, destroying the aura around Silva. Then the freak shin break in the rematch, and that was that. I really feel it was Karma. Never take for granted the gifts which you are blessed with.

 

Very overrated. I will remember him for getting highlight reel leg locked and KO'd after acting like a fool. Along with that horrible leg break he suffered.

Not making fun of that injury just saying how much of an impression it made on me. However, I was making fun of the first two incidents.
