Can a fighter ever regain full respect after quitting

I don't think it can ever be ignored no matter what you go on to achieve,Duran and srr are obviously the most famous fighters to quit and back out of a fight

 

Duran was overlooked because imo hes one of the greatest boxers ever, and had proven unbelievable toughness in so many fights before and after.
A fighter like Ortiz who goes into a Maidanna fight with a resume of nobodies only to quit the first time he faces adversity is totally different.

 

It depends on the circumstances around the quit job and what they do afterwards.

Which fight did Ray Robinson quit? He was physically unable to continue the Maxim fight.

 

Duran and Vitali are generally respected.

 

Got no problem with it if they're losing on the cards and they're being "bullied" in there.

A prolonged beating will take years off their careers, if they want to "quit"

Some boxers lack heart though, like that Scott dive. How he even gets booked for another boxing contest annoys me greatly.

When they have made a career out of beating lesser opponents to s pulp they should take their beating when on occasion it happens to them.and as for srr,he quit plain and simple,everyone makes excuses about heat etc,well did maxim fight in different conditions or something ?

 

Sometimes quitting can save your life in cases where the ref should stop the fight and just not doing it or in some cases the fight should have never been fought at all. I'd not disrespect anyone for quitting I'd just expect them to make their way back to top. Cotto quit against Margarito and I did not lose any respect to him at all. Later it was made clear that Margarito was cheating and going on with that fight could end Cotto's career or even life. So he made the right thing.

depends - if its against someone who is a dwarf originating from 4 divisions below you compared to you (byrd vs klitschko) then no the damage is irreparable.

"spirited but limited" brother vitali became quitali overnight.

 

Because Cotto had evidence Margarito was cheating and showed it to him in the faceoff. Cotto then destroyed Margarito in their matchup and made him retire. I have no problems forgiving Cotto for fighting someone with a weapon in his gloves.
