It should be penalized. When boxers abuse of this move a point deduction sounds fair, after all it's not anymore a last resource to protect yourself but simply refusing fighting (fighting includes: attacking, move around, feints, covering, etc).

Let the refs do their job, and stop looking for a way to give the fighter you like some sort of fictional advantage.

It's nothing to do with giving advantages, I'm convinced that most of the guys who do clinch would be as sucessful without it, however, clinching is against the rules, it SHOULDN'T be such a part of the sport.

Clinching, per se, is not illegal.

Most clinches happen is a fashion where both boxers have some degree of responsibility.

If two boxers get close and one boxer extends his arm under the other guy's armpit or between the elbow and the body (see Bryant Jennings vs. Klitschko -- he did this repeatedly) ... the guy who extends the arm is the one initiating the clinch. The other boxer cannot punch with that arm and the only way he can avoid a clinch is to raise his elbow away from his body or raising his hand above his head, which would make him vulerable -- and he's not oblicated to do that.

    EXCESSIVE holding is illegal.

unless referees start enforcing and deducting points for grabbing, young and up and comer boxer should incorporate this as part of their game. it's going to kill boxing but it's effective in stopping momentum and rhythm in fighters.

Excessive clinching does need to be dealt with but we need to support refs when they have the ***** to call big nsne fighters out on it.

Let's hope Wlad's point deduction against Jennings emboldens referees across the globe.

what's funny is that you complain so much about Floyd clinching and the most clinches he had in one round vs Pacquaio was 3

It's an illegal tactic. So we need to keep it under control.

Broner showed you can hug the whole fight and just get 1 point deducted.

Stop the ****ers from clinching so much. Guys who clinch a lot are puzzies.

Ref should've just docked him a point early. He would've stopped then.

Agreed. Refs need to let these guys know early. Cut the stuff out.
