Some have said that Terrell was using the thumbing as an excuse & he was not really effected by it. I do not know.
But it seems likely that he was around as fast as before but just LOOKED slowed compared to Ali.

he simply had freakish reflexes, once in a generation. it wouldn't matter if he was fighting 7 footers. terrel was as good as or better than wlad and wilder, he was just around at a bad time in the company of much better men to have a chance of having a long reign.

Frazier and Norton had shorter reaches than Ali and they hit him plenty.

Jimmy Young didn't have any problems tagging Ali as well.

Frazier, Norton and Young fought the post exile version of Ali. Anyone who believes that guy was the same as pre 67 needs glasses, or needs to follow another sport. He was still a great fighter, but in that reign he had to show, guts, and and an alternative style, the earlier version possibly took only 5% of the punches of the post ban Ali.

    yes I have to agree,

however, that doesn't change the fact that reach for the most part meant nothing to Ali compared to all others.

simply means that I think even Ali would have problems with reach and size with SKILLs at some point or another.

    As great as he was.

Modern day heavyweights have an advantage. However, Ali was a head of his time. He is the fastest heavyweight of all time. For example, Ali in the 60's had a faster jab than sugar ray robinson's jab. How is that even possible? Ali is a heavyweight and was way bigger than sugar ray robinson. The reach that klitschkos and deontay wilder have Ali was effortlessly dodging. If Ali fought a modern day heavyweight with that kind of reach it's questionable if he would be EFFORTLESSLY dodging the punches because modern day heavyweights are going to be faster than the opponents he fought.

Yes he did. Ali fought a fighter named ernie terell who was bigger than him. That's an excuse. ernie terrel was 6'6" and Ali was 6'3". Some people say Ali was 6'2". How could he of thumbed him in the eye? Excuse. Ali in the 60's would make any heavyweight in history look slow.

Of course because it's only natural. However, a modern day heavyweight has yet to show speed on Ali's level. Ali was effortlessly dodging punches so against the modern day heavyweights he would have to put some effort into dodging and the same outcome would happen. Ha, "old" sonny liston. Trying to downgrade Ali's greatness huh.

It's an obvious excuse. He said he saw two Ali's in the ring. Bull ****. Ali would make anyone look slow.
