that wasn't a call out, they simply said that if mayweather or canelo want to fight ggg he will go down to 154 how is he picking on smallr guys when his willing to go down to there division? if ward wanted to go down to 160 to fight ggg and ggg said no then that would be ducking
No it wouldn't particularly if Ward had never demonstrated the most remote capability of making 160. This notion that it's possible to duck someone from the division above you remains alien to me. It doesn't matter if you say you'll drop a division for a paycheck if you never actually demonstrate that you can.
ward said he could make 160 for a mayweather fight, and his weigh in at less than that earlier in his career:smoke
I'd rather see GGG vs Froch first anyway because the Cobra is retiring. Ward still has plenty of fights left in him. GGG vs. Ward can come later.
This. All it takes is a fight with DeGale or Kovalev, even a Pascal and that's enough to destroy whatever GGG has done in Wards absence fighting cab drivers. Ward was even paid more than GGG in their last fights so honestly I believe the whole sales and being a draw is smoke and mirrors.
I wonder how much $$ would Ward want for a GGG fight on HBO? He demanded and got 2 million $ for Smith sparring session :huh
ward says his staying at 168 and degale wont fight ward until he fights groves first. neither of the fights you mentioned will happed anytime soon
Yet he retracted that statement that very week. Also didn't he compete at light heavy in the Olympics and wasn't that exhibit A for the Ward haters that he was ducking Kovalev as well? I guess we've now established that Ward is simultaneously ducking guys in the division above and the division below him, but every opponent Golovkin has expressed disinterest is anything but a duck, right?
DeGale would be a better win for Ward than any middleweight Golovkin has fought in the last year and a half. Doesn't seem quite as barren as 160 to me.
Sure, but it means different things. Cotto is in GGG's division, and GGG is his mando. Cotto's teams refusal to even entertain the the fight is one thing. Canelo, and Mayweather have no sporting obligation to fight GGG so they are another thing. Dont conflate the differing circumstances, thats what agenda based people do. And actually I do have a pretty good idea of what Wards contract demands are, his last 2 fights have been tuneups that he has been paid 2mil each for. So, imagining that he will fight for less, let alone fight GGG for less is silly. Whenever wargaming the business side for Ward, I assume 2mil, which is actually pretty conservative for something that would be a major fight. On the other hand, K2 would be happy to fight Cotto under purse bid terms of 80/20 in Cotto's favor. Which would also be a PPV fight, and one of sporting significance within the division. As I said, A-side is who brings the money. GGG sells tickets, has foreign TV interest, and HBO's attention. So in terms of the money the fight itself would make, K2 has the cards. However, its obvious Roc did not make 2mil from Wards last fight... and are investing. If they chose to invest in a GGG fight they could. In which case Ward would be the A-side. A-side is not about whos "responsibility" it is to make an offer, its about who has the money and leverage. Regarding Cotto, Canelo, Floyd vs GGG its the former. Regarding Ward and GGG its the latter. Unless... Roc wants to make something happen. Roc has deep pockets, if they decided it was in their best interest to invest.
Ward has a way better resume than Golovkin, but holding a great resume doesn't mean squat if you aren't up for the job. It doesn't look good either that Ward's best win is too scared too fight GGG.
Well said :good HBO ain't paying Ward what he wants for GGG/Kovalev so it will have to be Jay Z making the investment. And seeing as how Ward's last fight was a total DUD I think he will.
